I started playing Gales of Nayeli recently and I think it's my favorite Fire Emblem-style game so far. The best part about it is that every character feels like a unique individual and not just part of a class with only minor differences #indiegames

This is exactly what I was talking about yesterday. You don't have to fill every space
i take frenzy damage every time i see someone go "well i just use it for the boring stuff". what are you TALKING about? if it's boring or unimportant, why are you putting it in? NPC dialogue is fertile ground for worldbuilding, creating verisimilitude, conveying important information, and hijinks!!
Buy a solo indie dev's game because I want to support them.

Same thing goes for a lot of the YouTube videos I am seeing lately. If I want to listen to music, I want it to be real music. And you don't need a genAI thumbnail or cover image that changes every 5 seconds. There are plenty of free stock images out there if you need to put something on the screen

I think one of the more insidious aspects of generative AI is how it seems to create this temptation to fill every empty space.

I see mechanics as part of culture. I feel like when we as developers are intentional about aligning game mechanics with culture it allows for more creativity #gamedev
What are your thoughts here? Should culture fit the game mechanics, or should the game mechanics work with the culture?
