I'm getting so tired of this city...

A historic site with no displays.

A public hall that’s closed six days a week.

Surrounded by busted sidewalks and a park rebuild that hasn’t begun.

Toronto spent vast sums and 20 years on this project. It was very late and far over budget, yet it is a shambles.

How Toronto Forgets Its History (Again) - Spacing Toronto
The north portion of St. Lawrence Market is arguably the second most historic spot in the post-colonial city, after Fort York. A public market has been operating there continuously since 1803, which i...

the Brazilian right is attempting to pass measures through the legislature to shield Bolsonaro and other legislators from the legal consequences of the failed coup, for which Bolsonaro was recently sentenced to 27 years. these photos are of the massive protests in response.

Estou do lado do povo brasileiro. As manifestações de hoje demonstram que a população não quer a impunidade, nem a anistia. O Congresso Nacional deve se concentrar em medidas que tragam benefícios para o povo brasileiro.

The most underappreciated issue in urbanism is the Anglosphere’s transit construction cost problem.

It’s not just that we’re spending too much money on any particular project.

It’s that we could be getting *much more transit* for the *same amount of money we’re currently spending*.

...reconciliation? I'm morbidly curious how they're going to try to make that argument.

Canada and Mexico are launching a new strategic partnership. This is a roadmap to deepen the strong ties between our nations and make North America the most competitive and dynamic economic region in the world — in trade, security, energy, and climate action.

Am I missing something? The screenshot does not seem to say this. It says that parking is available through the building and for that reason on street parking permits aren't available to these tenants.

I know from personal experience that this exception has been the case for many years.

Today I went to an academic lecture that was about gay cruising in Mexico's subway system and academic discourse can honestly be so fun sometimes.

Check your backups, go remove the batteries from stored electronics, go contact that someone you’ve been thinking of lately and go chase up that weird thing your body has been doing lately.

Today I made my first Canadian chocotorta. Did not have Chocolinas, of course, and the quality of the cream cheese and dulce de leche was a little suspect, but we'll see how it tastes tomorrow.

The TTC is an absurd transit agency. There's not even any indication on their Twitter of any issues with the 504 line. This is apparently normal and ok?

Is there anything better than a project that improves transit and cycling?

Montreal’s sustainable mobility corridors (“corridors de mobilité durable”), like here on Henri-Bourassa, are transforming arterial roads with bus lanes *and* protected bike lanes at the same time.

The both internal and external pressures to be a perfect by-the-book parent and mould your kids into the best possible versions of themselves seems absolutely exhausting.

Can't fault people who look at that prospect and go "Nah, I'm good."

This all being said, the official viewing area's playlist can only be described as "Imagine Dragons-y" and so they could likely use some help from my playlist.

It attracts an incredibly diverse crowd of all ethnicities, ages, and ability level. The progressive urge to paint this event as anything but family friendly fun, tradition, and culture is frankly absurd.

I really wish the left could stop being enemies of joy on *so many fronts*.

Loud noises scare babies/dogs would not even be an argument people aren't embarassed to raise in almost any other country.

This is an event that has been around for almost 80 years. It was here before you and will be here after you. You don't have to like it, but literally thousands of people do.

Got into another of those quintessential airshow conversations with someone in my building. "It scared my baby!" You mean, kind of like literally almost anything?

I assure you your baby will be fine. Also you have a full head of grey hair, so I'm kind of doubting the existence of this "baby".

It's not long enough to last you the whole airshow, but this is easily rectified by playing Hilary Duffy's Fly about 40 times.

Should've shared this earlier, which is probably why my #CIAS #AirShow Spotify playlist isn't as famous as it deserves to be: open.spotify.com/playlist/0bj...

I genuinely think one thing that trips up folks on the left is that they can't imagine not sharing certain core values. Lemme explain. Here's an intuition pump:

Say you're in negotiations with counterparty X. And there are two possible deals on the table ...

Ha, perfect. I called it "humiliation" when writing about not finding a washroom open in Toronto last week. That's exactly what it is, every elected official humiliating their constituents.
