I’m not sure it’s precisely bigotry anymore. People’s views are so entrenched that it makes debate redundant. As an old philosophy graduate I despair at the inability of people to weigh up both sides of an argument.

But yeah. Every day I'm reminded of how bigots, despite their political affiliation, maintain zero empathy for those they hate, from internet commenters to JK Rowling & governments.

They never take a pause to check in on their bigotry, & as a leftist, I'm tired of doing the emotional labour.

I recently read a book about the "science" behind evil which teetered between many arguments which all cancelled each other out:
1. There's no such thing as evil
2. We should be empathetic to people who do "evil" things as they have mental health issues/personality disorder/had a hard life
