As someone who is currently immunocompromised (as are many), I’m wearing a mask in crowded areas. It’d be ever so nice if you were to do the same if you’ve got something nasty like flu or Covid or a bad cold. It just seems like basic politeness to me but what do I know.

The opening of my book Men At War interrogates the teenage fascination with the Second World War, its machines, violence, etc. Yes, a lot of us *were* obsessed with Hitler, but in the sense of "these aircraft and ships destroyed his evil plan" and "imagine shooting him!", not Nigel's "he was right"
So we've gone from "he never said anything Nazi" to "well he might have said something Nazi but not in a hurtful way" to "well okay he probably did say something Nazi in a hurtful way, but didn't we all?"

Deeply upsetting that, at a time when putting *up* flags on lampposts and roundabouts is being argued as patriotic, we’re taking ours down to appease racists, homophobes and transphobes 😔

Sad to hear that photographer Martin Parr has died. Loved doing this piece with him. Below is a pic I took of him in his style.
So many people told me I wouldn’t get along with him, but I found him to be generous, funny and self-deprecating.

It's revealing about taboos around racism that the visceral bullying racism of schoolboy Farage cuts through while the much more consequential thinly veiled racism of adult Farage doesn't. Many people need that veil and flinch when it's removed. You can advocate racist policies but not say the words
