There's also a "I should never be uncomfortable or inconvenienced for even a second" urge people are increasingly comfortable trying to impose on an uncomfortable and inconvenient world.
The very things that annoy you about kids are the same reasons y’all get on here saying you hate small talk and don’t speak to your neighbors. It’s hyper-individualism. It’s easier to project that discomfort onto the most vulnerable rather than examine how disconnected we’ve all become.

No it doesn't. It just points out that republicans are gonna republican and the ostensibly opposition party is anything but.

The reasons there are no consequences is that the party ostensibly supposed to mete out those consequences isn't doing that. It's not because of OP's analogy.
its a terrible analogy. It removes any agency from GOP politicians. These are not soulless robots. Many of them are evil people. Removing their agency means you remove consequences for them.

Yes because only in America are there sports and authoritarian regimes going on at the same time
Americans are living under an authoritarian regime, yet this weekend, more Americans will go to sporting stadiums to watch sports than will protest on the streets.

Despite several attempts to export the idea, Seattle remains the only U.S. city with a democracy vouchers program, which provides money to residents to donate to the local candidates of their choice.
Seattle Renews Its Unique Approach to Public Campaign Financing
The democracy vouchers program hands residents $100 to donate to local candidates and it’s credited with broadening civic involvement. Voters on Tuesday extended it by 10 years.

Ah yes, the 34x convicted felon, adjudicated sex pest, and twice impeached guy *checks notes* commits more crimes. Who could’ve seen that coming?

That press conference was wild. Rubio was like, no, no it was an arrest (following the advice of counsel), Hegseth was like look at my suit it is fly, and Trump was like, I issued an executive order and declared myself King of Venezuela. You know what would help to navigate state building: USAID.
Exactly. These are not the same thing. Either this was a highly kinetic police operation or the US now runs Venezuela. If it's a policing operation, sovereign power of Venezuela doesn't come in as a package deal.
Either it was a limited operation merely to arrest Maduro and move on, or, it is an ongoing major regime change committment that will open up a transition including international and private sector partners. It really can't be both

I’m interested to see how it goes - I’m approaching similar levels of fed up with Microsoft. If it can run my Steam library and LibreOffice that’s really all I need.

Happening now: several hundred people are pouring into Chicago's downtown Federal Plaza.

It's 25 degrees outside.

Organizers are leading the crowd in a chant of, "no boots on the ground, no bombs in the air!"

Two protesters hold a large banner reading, "no war for Venezuela oil."

Abysmal statement from Canada on the illegal US action in Venezuela.

It doesn’t matter how much you dislike Maduro, that doesn’t justify a violation of international law and the UN Charter. You can’t call on “all parties” to respect international law and not call out US lawlessness.
Please see my statement on the situation in Venezuela:

Humanity will win

I don't know when and I don't know how

But I know that those who oppose it cannot win because the level of absolute power and control they demand can never be established in reality. That is why they are so angry and so desperate.

Once again, one of the primary reasons we have arrived at this point (completely out-of-control & unconstitutional abuse of executive power to conduct wildly illegal foreign policy) is that no one, including the most senior people involved, went to jail for the rest of their lives for Iran-Contra.

If we’re honest with ourselves about who we are as a country, the reality is this goes back far further than Iran-Contra, or Watergate & Cambodia, all the way to U.S. Grant’s original sin of exonerating the racist traitors, Robert Edward Lee & co., at Appomattox in 1865

From Ron Chernow’s “Grant”:

Two books on Venzuelan civil-military relations I urge journalists to read. John Polga-hecimovich's chapter in the edited volume is an excellent summary of the Chavista era. Trinkunas' book is authoritative on the pre-Chavez era. I also urge folks to read articles on the topic by Deborah Norden.

It's incredible that these people STILL haven't learned.

"Surely my tongue will give The Sunken Eyed Death King's boots the shine he craves"
On the question regarding opposition leader María Corina Machado Trump responded:

„I think it would be tough for her to be the leader. She doesn’t have the support or the respect within the country.“

What a slap for Machado. It appears that different plans have been made.

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.

It’s about oil and regime change.

And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.

As you get mad seeing your favorite college teams lose to randos, know this:

1. I truly don't care. Hold that L.🤷🏿‍♂️

2. We did this to improve college athlete graduation rates, and to reduce college athlete poverty. This is a civil rights issue.

And yes, athlete graduation rates are up since NIL!
