The people’s victory: What does Mamdani’s win really mean for Australia? It means that the same again in politics isn’t going to work, and things really to change. The Monday Essay from New Politics. READ, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE! @dlew919.bsky.social #AUSPOL open.substack.com/pub/newpolit...
The people’s victory: What Mamdani’s win really means
The moment of this political victory won’t last forever, but it will be enough to remind us that politics, at its best, still belongs to the people.

How much longer is this farce of a sideshow going to continue?

His position is untenable.

I mean, I know we live in linear time and that 1981 was forty-four years ago, so on an objective level "Adam Ant is 71 today" must be a factual statement about reality.
But also, that's clearly bollocks. Adam Ant can't be 71.
Adam Ant is 71 today. Hard to emphasise how seismic this was in playgrounds across the country in 1980. For a period he was as big as any act has been. Was he the perfect pop star? I think so. It couldn't last but if you were there you'll never forget it.

The big betrayal of the environment
Unless Labor finds a way to improve environmental protections it might find that no amount of political spin can protect a government that has lost its way on environmental issues.

The National Party of Australia voting themselves into a climate denying cul de sac of irrelevance is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in #auspol Totally on brand though. When you assign a shameless coal shill dunce like Matt Canavan to produce the report - you’ve belled the cat. Fools.

Albanese’s diplomatic success in the US but what’s the real cost?
Australia deserves better than to act like the quarry of the world and sell its public resources and its common wealth for a song to vested interests.
