Lover of popular music but always wanting to find out more. That golden period between 1978 and 1985 is where my heart lies but always willing to try something else.

Remembering Billy Mackenzie today with a look at his last album as The Associates - Wild and Lonely

"Throughout, Billy’s still remarkable vocal range and exquisite song writing is capable of sending a shiver down the coldest of spines."

The Smiths released their debut self-titled album on 20 Feb 1983. Possibly the most important debut album since "Led Zeppelin" (1969) or Nevermind the Bollocks" (1977), it showcased the songwriting genius of Morrissey and the melody constructing skills of Johnny Marr. I loved it. #TheSmiths

@dirtyfeed.org posted about Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em earlier. It led me to a YouTube trawl which uncovered this. An absolute joy watching three incredible actors trying to hold it all together.

The nearest I ever came to being a metal head. For two albums The Cult convinced me of the possibilities of ROCK 🤘🏼I never took it any further but Love and Electric remain magnificent. Love Removal Machine the pinnacle.

No details but can I say that gift shops as you leave attractions during half term are the work of the devil. Our entrance fees, extras, food and drink haven't shafted you enough. Have a fight in which no-one wins with your 5 year old over our loosely connected tat which you MUST pass through. 🤬

For those commenting on my glass last night.

It was apparently part of a promo they did back in 2000 where you could get "free" Guinness products if you collected enough bottle tops or ring pulls.

It still had its box and the little catalogue inside that showed what else you could get.

Was in Birmingham yesterday and saw a woman dancing to Whitney Houston in the Superdrug hair dye aisle, then she walked up to the counter and said ‘you don’t sell teeth do ya’

This alongside Condemnation is right up there with their very best. That darkness cannot be faked. This was them at that moment and you can almost taste the depravity and depression.

They don't care about you.

They don't care about me.

Everything is a distraction.

They care about themselves, their backers and billionaires.

The party of the 1%.

If you're in the 99% they're coming for you, your family, your livelihood, your schools, your hospitals, your community, your hope.
Multi-millionaire Zia Yusuf claims there are only very, very small pockets of poverty in this country.

That'll be news to the huge numbers of people who can't pay their bills and are struggling to feed their kids.

Reform are out of touch.

Let's keep them out of power.

Had a Winter Olympics inspired thought last night watching the big air stuff. These kids are under 25 so their parents would have been listening to Blink 182, Avril Lavigne, Sum 41 and these guys. The lead singer has had a torrid time by the looks of it. Always loved this.

Why don't we revere Harry Kane more? This article basically just leaves Messi ahead of him. Astonishing record and he's enhanced the reputation of those lucky enough to work with him. Seems like a decent bloke too.

Day 15

The Jam - Just Who Is The 5 O'clock Hero?

The band at their peak, Weller's writing consistently gritty, realistic with touches of lyrical beauty amongst the grime. One of the most relatable songs ever written. A play for today in a 3 minute pop song.
