Dan Stevens, the next Udo Kier? Place your bets now
Forgot about him! Veers between arthouse, schlock-horror and blockbusters, and clearly no quality control whatsoever. Very much here for The Weird Performances of Dan Stevens.

Also I don’t know if you know this but Robin Hood prince of thieves is “what if the Vietcong was in medieval Europe” and it’s one of the best fucking movies of the 90’s
Very funny to me that no Robin Hood movie has come close to besting the Kevin Costner Robin Hood. Like I love that movie but it is not a good movie. It’s like nobody else has figured out “wouldn’t it be cool if the Vietcong were in medieval England”

Helen MacInnes' Decision at Delphi: All her books are extremely solid, highly enjoyable thrillers and I don't understand how she isn't way more famous or why they haven't all been filmed.

Helen MacInnes' North from Rome: Her books, so carefully plotted, so visual, so precise, so full of action and so romantic, deserve a revival! Is anyone writing like her these days?

Helen MacInnes is ripe for rediscovery. Her thrillers are rock solid from start to finish, involve long chases with deadly stakes across various European landmarks, and don't always end with justice done

Helen MacInnes' The Unconquerable: WHEN is she going to get her due? Her books are incredible, vivid anti-Nazi thrillers, this one about the fall of Warsaw in 1939, with a gift for describing physical danger and human emotion that's becoming rare. An entertaining and vicious page-turner.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY is one of the greatest movies ever made but tonight I learned the unhappy news that TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY could have been the best movie ever made

I am in a hall with a royal box where a friend of mine once attended a gig where the band had hired a Queen Elizabeth impersonator to sit in said royal box and enjoy the show. She is by no means a royalist but she said it was an incredible vibe

This is disgraceful toadying to someone who could well be dead, out of office, or both by the time this reanimated corpse knuckle-drags itself to the screen. Some context: Ratner directed the state-approved Melania doc that is coming to Prime, so he's now a friend of The Family. >
I teased this last night in What I’m Hearing but now confirmed: Paramount WILL release Rush Hour 4 after prodding from Trump on behalf of Brett Ratner. Distribution deal. Producer Tarak Ben Ammar is lining up financing. Get ready for the dumbest possible state-controlled media.

Sinéad O'Connor Airport!
The Dáil has heard a suggestion that Dublin Airport be named after the former Taoiseach Sean Lemass.

Any counteroffers?

absolutely massive news from the EU's top court! while it doesn't force every EU country to perform same-sex marriages, it *does* require them to recognise same-sex marriages from other countries the same way they recognise other foreign marriages

it's a big step!
