"Minister Carroll MacNeill's statement should be seen for the desperate distraction attempt that it is.
"It is genuinely disappointing to see a senior government minister reduced to cheap negative campaigning.
"From my own experience of campaigning with Catherine in recent weeks, I know that her message of positivity, social justice and inclusion is really resonating with people all over the country and her campaign has huge momentum.
"Those of us supporting Catherine's bid for the presidency refuse to be distracted by baseless attacks from a Fine Gael party that is clearly lashing out and in panic mode."
