For those following the news re: EU fining X for DSA violations, this thread explains that (despite how we may see the right and the U.S. gov frame things), it isn’t about “censorship” or even content moderation, but about X failing to follow laws about platform transparency and deception. A thread:
Don't let anyone tell you that the Commission's DSA enforcement against X is about speech or censorship.

That would, indeed, be interesting. But this is just the EU enforcing some normal, boring laws that would get bipartisan support in the U.S. (I bet similar bills *have* had that support.) 1/

Lost in the headlines is that a huge chunk of the fine is focused on deceptive practices and poor design of the verified badge. The revamp was the second major change made after the acquisition and was a complete disaster. It was the biggest dumpster fire of a project I’ve been associated with.

Poor guy. He was an icon.
It's with heavy hearts that we share that Claude, our beloved albino alligator, has passed away at the age of 30. Claude brought joy to millions of people at the Academy and across the world during his 17 year tenure. We will miss him dearly. 🤍

Saw this exhibit today at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Loved the story of these two artists and how they inspired each other.

Manet & Morisot
Rich in new research, this exhibition recasts the artistic friendship between between French Impressionists Édouard Manet and Berthe Morisot in a fresh light.

one of my favorite bluesky features that no other social media network has (afaik) are Labelers, which label content in all kinds of ways. This one from Cornell will tell you which accounts are posting 100+ times a day, or are rapidly changing their profile photo, etc. bsky.app/profile/stec...

Joe taught me a mini version of this course earlier in the summer and I’ve been quietly recommending his workshop pre-launch. He’s a great teacher and the workshop is full of all kinds of useful material.
1/7 I'm excited to share something I've been working on since April: build.ms/ai.

It began when @jeremyb.bsky.social came by and I told him I could teach him enough about AI in three hours to build his app idea. We didn't *quite* finish, but to quote him "I'm so grateful I've found this new hobby."
