🚲🚲There is nothing more efficient in the world of machines and animals than a human on a bicycle.

The humble bicycle is an amazing machine.

Congestion pricing is like Brussels sprouts: everyone hates the idea of them—until they actually try them roasted with a little garlic and realize, ‘Wait… this is amazing’.

Some stats from 100 days in on congestion pricing:
- Complaints about car-honking are down 70%
- The Holland Tunnel has 65% fewer delays at rush hour; time to get thru it is down 48%
- 6 million fewer cars
- Half as many traffic-related injuries
- 1.5 million more visitors to BIDs year over year
How Well Is Congestion Pricing Doing? Very.
One hundred days in, honking is down; bus speeds are up.

Remember, Paris wasn’t “always this way.”

Not that many years ago, Paris was choking in car traffic. And it wasn’t a safe place to ride a bike for transportation, so not many people tried.

This is new. This is a result of deliberate vision, and bold leadership.

Cities are a result of choices.
Many people riding in a Paris separated bike lane.

It wasn’t net zero — it was fossil gas that drove up UK electricity prices.

Spot on, @pilitaclark.bsky.social! Gas sets the price most of the time.

As @dharavyas.bsky.social Energy UK, says: "It’s the volatile cost of fossil fuels and our dependence on them that have driven up energy bills."

"Musk Said No One Has Died Since Aid Was Cut. That Isn’t True." By @nickkristof.bsky.social

An estimated 1,650,000 people could die within a year without American foreign aid for H.I.V. prevention and treatment.

Achol Deng, an 8-year-old girl, was also infected with H.I.V. at birth and likewise remained alive because of American assistance. Then in January, Achol lost her ID card, and there was no longer a case worker to help get her a new card and medicines; she too became sick and died, said Labani.

As expected, public approval of congestion pricing in New York is following the same trajectory it followed in London, Stockholm and everywhere else it was tried. One would hope we could learn a lesson from such things!
horadam.bsky.social
"More NYC residents now support the program than oppose it. About 42% said the toll should remain while 35% want it eliminated, according to Siena’s latest poll. That’s a reversal from December, when only 32% supported the $9 fee while 56% were against it."

NEW ANALYSIS: Current running costs of heat pumps on standard tariff reach cost parity with gas boilers with average efficiency (SCoP 2.9).

BUT: Highly efficient heat pumps + smart tariffs can more than halve heating costs.
