Breaking: BILL CASSIDY is calling for CDC's vaccine advisers meeting to be postponed.

"If the meeting proceeds, any recommendations made should be rejected as lacking legitimacy given the seriousness of the allegations and the current turmoil in CDC leadership."
Inbox: @sanders.senate.gov is calling for a bipartisan investigation into the firing of CDC Director Susan Monarez.

Sanders is the top Democrat on the Senate's health committee — the chairman is Bill Cassidy, who last night said he would conduct "oversight" but didn't get more specific.

NEW: Trump said he fired the head of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics after a job report showed weakening employment growth. Her firing raises the threat of political interference in U.S. economic data, which economists say could undermine confidence in the economy.

Data doesn’t lie but Trump does.

This is authoritarianism. This is what dictators do.

A legal permanent resident researching cures for Lyme disease has been detained by immigration officials for over a week.

He has reportedly been denied access to an attorney and his family has not been given a reason for his detention.

We cannot become immune to this cruelty.

A top coronavirus vaccine adviser at the CDC has resigned, citing concerns that she could no longer help vulnerable people after officials rescinded recommendations to immunize children and pregnant women.

I saw them on the ferry this week with their twin Italian greyhounds, each in a little sweater vest because it’s a bit chilly on the bay.
This is a great vaccine and an option I have taken in the past. This decision to restrict is not based in good science and signals even worse restrictions to come.
The FDA will permit Covid vaccines only for adults over 65 and those with certain medical conditions in the fall, according to new regulatory standards.

This man isn't only out of touch, but he is a true dumb-dumb.

"Eggs are down 97, 98%"

Eggs are currently $5.12/dz on average. Trump's math implies that eggs were $170/dz in January.

He just doesn't understand how the economy (or even simple math) works!
Trump to UAE president: "We have a term 'groceries.' It's an old term but it means basically what you're buying, food, it's a pretty accurate term but it's an old fashioned sound but groceries are down."
Democrats should require as part of any appropriations bill that federal law enforcement may not conceal their identity (face or ID number) when conducting an arrest or detention.

I am calling for his immediate release by federal law enforcement.

We are not under invasion.

There is no justification for suspending our constitutional rights.

Every single American should speak out against this, loudly and forcefully.
Stephen Miller: "The writ of habeas corpus can be suspended in a time of invasion. So I would say that's an option we're actively looking at."

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."

Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.

Ethical violation as POLICY.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr intends to shift the way vaccines are tested, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson from the HHS.

The business community won't rescue us from creeping authoritarianism, but I do expect them to fight for their own interests.
By engaging Jenner, @microsoft.com reaffirms that rule of law is essential for business investment and economic growth. Kudos.

It's historically difficult to so clearly and immediately identify economic downturns with their causes in policy. This time is the exception. Tariffs, among many other destabilizing Trump policies, are clearly causing this reversal in American prosperity.
Breaking news: The U.S. economy shrank in the first three months of 2025, contracting by an annualized rate of 0.3 percent, a stark reversal after nearly three years of solid growth, as tariff-related uncertainty upended spending patterns and raised fears of an impending recession.

Then, two officers visited him at his home, accusing him of "obstructing an ongoing immigration investigation"

Then, after speaking publicly, he was fired from his job at a Fortune 500 company

Kudos to Jenner & Block for standing up for the rule of law. The power of the presidency should not be used to extort compliance with a particular political agenda. Democracies are great engines of innovation and economic opportunity because they protect free speech and expression.
Judge Bates ended the hearing on Trump's executive order targeting Jenner & Block without a ruling, after repeated, indignant and scorching remarks about the Trump DOJ's arguments.

He says the ruling will take time.

That's understandable: An appeal is widely considered inevitable.
👏👏👏
And now, a note on Bill Owens who, until this past week, was the executive producer of 60 Minutes.

We’ll be back next week with another edition of 60 Minutes.
Kicking someone out of their own country is not deporting. It is illegal. It is fascist.
“Deporting” someone is sending them back to their country where they are free to live as citizens.

What that asshole is doing is NOT deportation.

It’s kidnapping and human trafficking. It’s illegally sending people to USA-funded off shore concentration camps.
