Critter Drifters is OUT on Steam! You can play it! On Windows or Linux or Steamdeck! Right now!!

Or you know...whenever you want to. I'm just glad I can finally let people play the whole thing.

I'm good at writing I swear. But hey, now you know a human being wrote this tweet.

It virtually removes you from the process of creation, making you a commissioner, not an artist. I wouldn't even want to generate a video game, even if it made something amazingly good. I could enjoy playing one, sure, but it simply could not provide me the feeling of having made it myself.

Highly recommend giving this a watch. It gets right to the root of genAI discourse, which can be surprisingly (or perhaps not so surprisingly) complicated and nuanced with all sorts of nuances that muddy the main issue.

Starting to get a decent vibe from this level now. So far it's just the outdoor area, but I have a several cave entrances laid out, and am also considering an indoor section for the log cabin.

I should pull back for a while though and work on implementing other stuff like a dialog system.

Goldman: You said references to ICE as secret police encourages threats. The problem is you have it backwards sir. People are making valid observations about your tactics which are outright fascist. If you don’t want to be called a fascist regime, stop acting like one.

Lilypad puzzle solving! It was tough to make sure they function on changing water elevations, but it wasn't too bad.

You're not allowed to jump out of water (except against the shore), but that restriction actually allows for some interesting mechanics to play with.

Godot's ultimate is queue_free()

The target gets tagged for removal and a second later they vaporize into nothingness.

Couldn't resist applying some basic textures to the level I'm making. I deliberately try to avoid it to not get caught up in details, but it is nice to see something that looks like a real platformer!

Just ignore the abrupt edges in level geometry...

Sound on! The waterfall might not look like much, but having positional sound really adds a lot.

Started making a real level. My goal is to have 10 major collectibles, with only some being collected by simply exploring.

The rest should have a unique challenge, but I want to organically find out what those should be by just playing in the level and imagining!

In new projects I like to import levels from old games sometimes, just to see what it feels like to run around somewhere more familiar. It never fails to entertain in a weird way.

The whole precedence of staffers posting as if they are that person is a mistake. If a president has a social media account, it should be the president's account full stop. What they choose to say or endorse online is just as important as what they choose to speak with their mouth.

I paid the $100 fee to create a listing for my 3D platformer game on Steam, so I guess you could say I'm fully committed to this project now!

Character on the left is just something I'm playing with. The sunglasses need work I think. I'm trying to go for a douchy tech bro vibe.

Ziplines!

Right now it's accomplished with a dead-simple lerp from the starting position to the ending position, but in the future I could refactor it to follow a path instead.

Having these will be really nice for fast-travel and getting the player to new areas quickly.

- Draw a circle to create a jump platform there
- Connect two points to complete an electronic circuit
- Draw a path for an NPC to follow
- Draw a fuse
- Create a wall where you draw

Toying with a "drawing" mechanic. Previously it would only let you draw one line, but now it allows an arbitrary number of them on the ground!

I feel like there are a lot of interesting potential usages for this, especially for puzzle solving. Some brainstorming below:

If only the US government could be more like Adobe...in that after receiving backlash, they reverse a terrible decision. It's almost like there's not a real incentive in one situation compared to the other. We need a national general strike.
