Re-reading some of Terre Thaemlitz's writing (online != digital) in prep for a talk I'm giving next week.

What are good examples of pushing extreme videogame filesize for aesthetic-political reasons? Like, attempting to put a 20 TB game on a storefront, etc. I know I'm forgetting examples here.

I’m so into this series of deconstructed dub records, False Aralia 03 is one of my fav records of the year bsky.app/profile/boom...
Peak Oil’s eminently watchable False Aralia sub-label return with a pair of EP’s revelling in a signature spirit of hallucinatory dub chicanery, Trip Hop x fluid hydrodynamics, primed to file next to /\\Aught, Pole, Short Span, Vlad Delay

Writing again about Videogamo's NAVE for a talk I'm giving at Playtopia.

13th annual World Championship apparently happens December 5. I wish I was in Buenos Aires for it. I happened to attend in 2019, coolest videogame event I've ever attended.

Wow, Petscop is now eight years old. And still one of the best, most understated pieces of surreal 'haunted videogame' analog horror around.

Best experienced late at night with nothing else to get in the way. Try to piece it together yourself, and come to your own conclusions and interpretations.

Long live TSLOG!!

Intro episode already got contentious, we immediately stepped on the age-old philosophical rake of "can we treat visuals and mechanics as separate layers, or are they inextricable"

(obv I personally think they're inextricable, esp in Michael's work)

I think we need to talk about the difference between Commerce (trading goods and services, as old as human culture. 1000s of years. people love it! get things!) and Capitalism (goods and services not important, numbers are important. few hundred years old. a lot of people think it can be a bit shit)

People who use this technology do not want to be taught about a topic; they want the end result of having learned, without learning. I would guess for many this describes a feature, not a bug, of the technology.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

It’s fun to think about the surgeon who will botch your surgery 20 years from now and what he’s doing at this moment. He just ran all his homework through ChatGPT. He just read that article about vaccines and autism at the CDC website. He just watched an Instagram video about the moon landing hoax.

Also: are people really still on Twitter? Are any of your communities still active on Twitter? I stopped following reality tv Twitter long ago. I guess I’m feeling curious, like sociologically, about what actually ultimately drives groups to move between / abandon platforms and tools.

I still really miss sharing photos to old friends on IG - I never ended up finding any substitute - but I do not regret trying to minimize how much I use Meta platforms.

I get not everyone has the luxury of leaving IG but man do I long for the day that healthier alternatives are more widespread.

The whole thread is worth it, but this kicker is absolutely the real real
We’re watching a shift where AI simulates the cohesion and reinforcement that used to require an entire online community. A single person can now build a complete parallel reality with nothing more than a prompt window. Which seems bad.
