Found this pic of a vintage Avon Thomas Disch paperback I bought in Lancaster, PA aeons ago

The walls and ceiling are baby blue. There's a door to the left and a window with a slivered view of the city outside to her right. A blocky green television with a wire antenna sits in the foreground of the image.

Front and center, sitting provocatively on a grey upholstered settee, is a voluptuous, curvaceous woman (purposefully exaggerated and giving Jessica Rabbit vibes). She wears a red corset with purple arm-length gloves & garters attached to matching purple stockings, and green strappy stilleto pumps. Her legs (thick and muscular, like a Crumb Girl) are spread akimbo on the settee; her hip-to-waist ratio is cartoonish, and male-gazed. She has short blond hair, a full face of makup, and sunglasses.

The artist is not attributed on the cover, and I couldn't find any specific confirmation online. It's suggested it might be an uncredited work by sci-fi and fantasy illustrator Don Ivan Punchatz

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Comme cette photo tourne beaucoup mais que personne ne prend la peine de donner le nom de la femme sur la droite : il s'agit de Kathryn Mullen, la marionnettiste de Kira sur Dark Crystal. Elle a aussi travaillé sur Yoda et sur des Muppets.

Ah, et de dos c'est Frank Oz et au milieu c'est Jim Henson.

C'est une photo de Franz Oz assis derrière sa caméra, en train de filmer les marionnettes de Jen et Kira pour son film Dark Crystal. Tout à fait d’accord avec M. Web, on sent l’envie d’éviter les écueils du biopic et le style de Chomet y parvient presque par sa poésie, l’incarnation des figures de l’époque, la beauté des décors, mais retombe dans des travers d’écriture. Ça laisse sur sa faim mais c’est plaisant et touchant

A must-see mashup of folk horror, revenge thriller, and war movie. The sheer daring of SALOUM is something to behold. My only real quibble is w/ the CGI spirits--their fakeness feels jarringly out of place in a film where the lead actors are giving such intense, emotionally authentic performances

In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”

- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs".

There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.
