For the past five years, my nesting partner and I have headed into the forest, to give our thanks to the many ancestors (human and non-human alike) who hold us gently, and search for our badnjak, the centerpiece of our Sczcodre Gody ancestral alter. It essentially serves as the kickoff to Kolęda!
Actually in the spirit of this conversation, what’s a decision you made about a past Thanksgiving holiday that really paid off? I think people often feel trapped by their lives. Sharing our experiences can liberate us from that sense of claustrophobia.
On the most recent episode of VIBE CHECK, we answer listener questions about Thanksgiving, most importantly “do you go celebrate with the family members you don’t even like?”

That's pretty cool! A museum scanned their entire collection, and then matched the distribution of colors to the era from which the object comes. The browns of 19th century, reds of mid-20th, recent blues. But also more and more of Pure Black.

we perfected abundant cheap, vibrant, color-safe pigments in every hue and then immediately stopped using colors

The inspiration behind this is def from a study of Sagittarius B2, a giant molecular cloud composed of gas & dust towards the center of our galaxy. Astronomers searching for amino acids ended up detecting large amounts of ethyl formate. This compound smells like rum & gives raspberries their flavor!

People in power don’t like it when you ask too many questions, ya know?
Yeah, but, how can they coercively control all of us, if too many of us don't like, won't accept, and refuse to conform to useless (at best) and violent (at worst) norms?

Anti-neurodiversity/sanism is always a not so thinly veiled attempt to maintain the hierarchy(ies). Change my mind.
I think my biggest problem with the "vaccines cause autism" bullshit is that, even assuming they did (they don't, actually), neurodiversity is...good?

"Oh no, instead of polio and measles, people are cool and have new and different ways of thinking about things" is, uh, a really weird flex

In Monrovia, California, protesters are purchasing 17¢ ICE scrapers from Home Depot and immediately returning them to create long lines and slow down the entire store. Their aim is to disrupt sales and convey a message opposing ICE raids occurring in their neighborhood.

Turns out this was all much ado about nothing and Google isn’t using your Gmail to train AI and if wanna turn all that stuff back on you can get your spam filters back
Looks like the article has been updated to suggest maybe they misread the policy.

I see people complaining that this also disabled their spam filters, though I still see new messages showing up in spam so it's still working fine for me after disabling things.

All this just to get a prescription for something non-permanent, and that we happily give to cis kids.
The “Pathways” trial is, IMO on more than one level, a thoroughly unethical piece of “research” to be carrying out on children, especially children who are part of a marginalised minority.

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Most of us have no idea how bad it is inside ICE detention centers because they have kept it hidden. Then a truth teller shows up and says it plain.

The conditions are filthy. The treatment is inhumane. The abuse is Systematic and routine.

Beginning Monday, a Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate drink will be available exclusively at Starbucks cafés inside Target stores.
