The normalisation of right-wing populism with all its authoritarian traits as a legitimate form of "democracy" is disheartening.

Here's the thing, the whole point of 'sponsoring' these things is you don't have to directly lobby or strong-arm, the appeasement becomes tacit - see also the National Press Club quietly slurping cash from multiple weapons companies and fossil fuel climate crims
The Centre for Public Integrity’s executive director, Catherine Williams, said the club offered “an invaluable opportunity for monied interests to build relationships with members of parliament and their staff”.

“Let’s be real about it: if the access isn’t perceived to be valuable, why is it sold as a benefit of membership?” Williams said.

RWA’s chief executive Kai Cantwell said it did not use the club to lobby politicians.

“RWA’s work on regulation and harm reduction happens through the proper parliamentary and regulatory processes, not on the sporting field,” Kantwell said.

“Like other industries, we occasionally take part simply to enjoy exercise and socialising – something important for all Australians, particularly in high-pressure roles.”

It is government policy for at least 4% of people to be unemployed at all times.

When there are not enough unemployed people, they punish mortgage holders with interest rate increases until the economy gets bad enough that people start losing their jobs again.

Labor's employment minister rep admits that payment suspensions "cause harm", but they're "an important part" of the (unlawful) mutual obligations system, because

"At the end of the day we want ppl to get off payments and find a job"

gross 'best form of welfare is a job' stuff from the ALP here

With 2 months until the teen social media bans kicks in, teens are already inventing — and sharing — ways to get around the ban.

They're making TikToks teaching each other to how to say their accounts are run by their parents, or to find alternative platforms

Kicking someone out of the parliament sports club for pointing out the parliament sports club is so involved with the gambling lobby they had to officially register as a lobbying group is the very sort of action that should be referred to a 'National Anti-Corruption Commission'.

Well, well, well. Guess who just got booted from the Australian Parliament Sports Club, for—you guessed it—being white.

I'd love to see a media organisation with the guts to name and shame purveyors of arrant nonsense, pure fantasy, dissembling, exaggeration, misdirection etc.

@davidpocock.bsky.social disbarred for politicisation?

How does the club explain its changed status to a lobbying group? And how in a logical universe could a club associated with the national parliament NOT be political? For many years previous public communication CELEBRATED the association.

An unusual physical climate risk. A swarm of barrel jellyfish were sucked into the cooling system of Western Europe’s largest nuclear power station, shutting down the plant for 10 days. A marine heatwave had triggered the bloom of the jellyfish. assets.bbhub.io/professional...

An ER medic reported injuries were grouped. Kids one day being shot in the middle of the forehead. Next day it might be the crotch, next day elesewhere.

These groupings could not be coincidental. He described it as "the gamification" of killing ie the IDF snipers did this for fun.
