My theory is that the US peace movement is full of cranks and incompetents, and one manifestation of that incompetence has been insisting every war is about oil. They still bizarrely say this about OIF, it's like if US militarists still swore up and down there was a real and imminent WMD threat.

You’re arguing against Fordism, which isn’t my position. Reindustrialisation today means rebuilding strategic capacity: energy, defence, advanced engineering, semiconductors. Every one of those sectors needs skilled domestic labour. A country that can’t make critical things isn’t sovereign.
