And also, because wow, here's a picture of the wash basins in the loos at the centre of my local market. It's the small things sometimes, but they matter.

Book 13/30. No One is Talking About This. Patricia Lockwood. A sublime whirlwind and emotional carnival ride, every page an adventure in language. It's an intimate portrait of love, the internet & grief. Nothing in the known world is the same once Lockwood turns her gaze upon it.

Doing some research and this paper - written in 2008 - turned up.
I’m debating updating it but wonder how easy that would be as transparency has definitely not improved. Suspect these findings still hold true.

Visited Alotau yesterday. Toured the women’s health sections of the hospital. The midwives do an amazing job with low staffing and limited resources (1 midwife often caring for 4-5 women in labour). Alotau is the only hospital in Milne Bay Province that has a population of 700,000.

I get the feeling that and here I struggle with the appropriate metaphor…

The wheels have come off

The brakes have failed

The pot is boiling over

All bets are off

It feels like the chaos is spreading and there don’t seem to be any limiting factors anymore

Except, there are

There is us

Yes us

High-status professions attract strong candidates because they offer prestige, structured advancement, competitive remuneration, and societal recognition. In contrast, early childhood education has too often been treated as an auxiliary service" #childcare #auspol

You can’t regulate your way to quality early childhood education
Recent safety failures have triggered tighter regulation in early childhood education and care. But compliance alone cannot deliver quality. Real reform begins with professionalising the workforce.

Sharing again because... 👀

This frieze from Fulton County, Georgia shows "Medicine's battle with Death." Note the rod with two snakes. Many mistake it for the Rod of Asclepius (the traditional symbol of healing). However, this is the Caduceus, symbol of commerce. A common error in the USA.

Book 11/30 The Cost of Living. Deborah Levy. Levy reaches out from her own Republic of Writing, giving us a book written in a garden shed with leaves and silence, gracing us with what it means to create, to write, to risk everything, to love and to lose, like an expired marriage vow. Supreme.

Any typos spotted in this post would like to thank all the amazing people that came to their book birthday party. The typos made sure there were sensible cheese and cracker snacks on show at their party but it was DEFINITELY the kiwi dip, the chips and the fairy bread that disappeared first.

Ok I actually read the article and I’m even more pissed off lol fuck this! Fuck all of it!
