Bill 9 is unscientific and immoral. It does nothing to protect children. It is only designed to hurt them by denying doctor supported life saving care.

Kill Bill 9, not our children.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to ask the Government Representative in the Senate a question about the Liberal Government’s platform commitment to provide funding for IVF treatment, which significantly impacts those in the 2SLGBTQI+ community who would like to have children.

These findings published in the Journal of Pediatrics are consistent with other studies.

Even the Churches are opposed to Bill 9.

It’s a simple message. Treat everyone with basic dignity and respect, not hate or harm.
“The decision to override Charter rights fails this test.”

The Anglican, Lutheran and United Churches in Alberta have written to Danielle Smith condemning her use of the notwithstanding clause to punch down on the vulnerable Albertans.

Thank you to the Assembly of First Nations for standing up for the human and charter rights of 2SLGBTQQIA+ Albertans.

The UCP government must immediately withdraw Bill 9 and uphold the inherent rights, teachings, and responsibilities of all first peoples.

Today, I proclaimed Transgender Day of Remembrance in Calgary. We honour those we’ve lost, and we stand with resolve for a city where everyone can live safely and authentically. We will keep fighting for every person’s right to be who they are: openly, proudly, and without fear. #yyccc

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, I hope Albertans will remember that trans kids and teens are living breathing humans who just want to be themselves, without fear of hate and discrimination. Demonizing kids merely to score political points in some weird culture war is craven and cruel.

The most tone deaf and hypocritical statement you wouldn’t believe until you actually saw it.

You cannot recognize a day of mourning when your government’s anti-trans discriminatory legislation is causing the incredible harm.

The duplicitous double speak is so Orwellian.

“Albertans rely on the protections guaranteed by the Alberta Human Rights Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Suspending those rights, particularly for vulnerable groups, places the freedoms of all Canadians at serious risk.”

The Alberta Government is normalizing the use of the notwithstanding clause in an attempt to ignore the rule of law.

Use your voice. Protect the Charter. Stand up for human rights. Democracy depends on it.

We have both courts and parliament for very important reasons. Checks and balances. One should not try and undermine the other. In the end, democracy is what loses.
