If you followed me from the old place because of hockey; don't bother. I stopped watching hockey a few years ago.

Have we now lost the distinction between personal and personnel?

I needed to wait until tonight to take an updated picture of what the buddies are up to these days.
On the right there is a ceramic penguin and a polar bear on a rock. Purchased from artists locally. The small white inukshuk is from an artist in Manitoba. The green one is from a Tuktoyaktuk artist

This is an excellent read. I've been saying for years that I've run out of f*cks to give. Now I know why
This is an excellent read for middle-age #women: "Aging Out of Fucks: The Neuroscience of Why You Suddenly Can’t Pretend Anymore."

It's science!

My buddies make me smile every day.
Day 7. Titled “Buddies”, this fun piece features a moose and a bear out for a paddle. Deep philosophical conversations between them ensue.

I signed. I've been concerned about this
I signed. I want to be able to make this choice for myself. It also troubles me that the same governments that are destroying public health care, advocate for making MAID less accessible.

The lack of access to advance requests is a critical gap in our country’s assisted dying legislation — and must be corrected.

If you'd like to feel hopeful for a change, do as David suggests and read this article.
This is amazing! It makes complete sense (not going to spoil it, read the article)
1. Some good news at last. This week’s column is about the amazing thing a couple of us stumbled into three years ago, which we’ve now developed into a global research programme. It doesn’t change everything, of course, but it could help change quite a lot. + 🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

If you want to feel better about the world, follow Brickhouse Smokery (a local Edmonton business). Their Giving Back campaign in December is amazing. They post what people need and others step up to help. Sometimes with money and sometimes they buy a vehicle

When people find out that I'm an accountant, they asked me income tax questions. Not every accountant does tax. People don't know that there different types of accountants just like there are different types of lawyers. If you are a business owner, you really need to understand this
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Great photo!
I avoid entering contests, but a couple of non wildlife shots I particularly love I thought, ah, go for it. Made it to the nominated level, which allows people to vote for their favourites. So your vote is the only thing between me and fame and fortune LOL

I love these swings at the new park. I don't know when they went in, but I didn't notice them until today. They look like a great place to have a coffee and hang out with a friend

And people hospitalized due to falling on icy sidewalks or trying to climb over snowbanks. It is crazy what is acceptable
It’s crazy that instead of this we have a patchwork of ppl paid privately to drive around the city clearing snow from random homes, ppl doing it themselves and having heart attacks, and uncleared sidewalks.
I know that many other cities don’t plow their sidewalks, leaving it up to property owners. This is completely crazy to me.

Our sidewalk plows look like this and they do a pretty good job.

My Surprise Songs piano snowglobe is out for delivery today! Seems appropriate to get a snowglobe on a snowy day. Interesting because I ordered the TTPD snowglobe the day before and it hasn't shipped yet. They were READY on the Surprise Songs piano.
Also ... merch drop today? I think so ...

Another fraud story. What do you need to learn from this? You cannot obtain adequate segregation of duties when people are related. This situation should never have been allowed. If you are a business owner or a board member, learn that now.

Okay, black Friday sales in Canada are dumb. It is even dumber When the sales are already on. It isn't Friday yet. However, I just got a grey hoodie for $18 at Marks and since the deal was so great, I also bought a gray one.

The very kind building maintenance man just agreed with my self-assessment that I am very clean, but also very messy 😀
He's here to replace my stove and commented on how clean my stove and microwave are but he also saw how much stuff I had to move out of the way to make room for him

This is fascinating. Also, it is about damn time that this started happening. At the last place I worked, we compared salaries after we worked there. Crazy discrepancies some of which appeared to be sexism /ageism (pay older workers less).
An Ontario provincial government win? I don’t know how to process the Ford government doing something that’s good for Ontarians.
Woah!

Ontario passed a law starting Jan 2026 that it is illegal for companies to ghost you.

If you have interviewed for a job they are legally required to inform you if they hire someone else or close the position.

The law also requires salary transparency on listings and disclosing use of AI

It is me! Today, I was deliberating whether or not to keep a whole bunch of old cables. Because, you just never know.
And books, I hold them in my hand and decide whether or not I should keep them. I keep them
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.
