It's a shame Wayne and Garth never got to meet Bob and Doug McKenzie.

Talking points ripped from A26 of the newspapers.
Just got this forwarded. Here are the talking points Schumer's team just emailed out to their allies TODAY - this afternoon.

The words "Minnesota" or "ICE" don't appear anywhere here.

You know. Sometimes I tell my dog "big stretch!" when I know it's a medium stretch at best.

Look, you do this, plus archival footage of the Klan at the appropriate moments. And then you've got "Those who died..." and you show people grieving, people hurt badly by ICE. And then it ends with "We've been through this before. And we all said 'No. Not here. Not anymore.' We must do it again."
The second is basically just a montage of all the ICE brutality, fully masked and standing around. The whole time, Rage Against the Machine's Killing in the Name plays and the lyrics are prominently overlayed on the screen so there's no doubt. "Some of those that work forces."

I need two commercials made by some Left SuperPAC and put in the Superbowl and run in every major broadcast for the next two years. The first is basically a montage of movies where Nazis or East Germans or Soviet officers are asking to see someone's papers, then into ICE people doing the same thing.

"Democrats are having a hard time crafting an immigration policy they can run on." This is simple. "My immigration policy is the words on the Statue of Liberty." And then they dramatically and convincingly recite The New Colossus. Followed by putting it into historical context with anecdotes.

If he is so easily bruised, guy should've prioritized getting out of the way of a car instead of drawing his piece. You'd think a dude who already got hit by a car the year before would've learned.
Zero percent chance this is true.

I think the light cycles and the disc combat would be cooler. Akira is an interesting model. It has motorcycle combat and ends with a fight between the regular sized person and a huge existential horror, aided by a godlike entity who comes to change the world again.

When I first got started in games, a young 23 year old eager to prove myself, I got very tetchy about bug reports. I was embarrassed about making a mistake and reacted with hurt pride. Then I found out how embarrassing it is for a mistake to get published and I matured into welcoming bug reports.

ICE kidnap 17-year-old U.S. citizen working at Target then dump him bleeding and crying miles away in a Walmart parking lot… 🤬

You stack the subcommittee with hardcore abolitionists and when they produce their report, you can say "We gave it a fair shake. This is what the committee determined!"
i think the public-facing message re: ICE needs to be something like “let’s pump the brakes and investigate these bad apples” and then you take power and wipe the whole thing out

Conservative wing nut think tanks have been planning how to speed run the Hungary method of gutting democracy. Should we stop it, I don't know if there's a way to speed run fixing it. If there was, no lefty think tank is planning it. And if they were, no elected Democrats would want to try it.

The lie at the heart of the immunity decision is here. The president needed immunity to avoid being bogged down in the fear of retaliatory investigations by the following administration. And that decision allowed the following administration a supercharged version of retaliatory investigations.
Unfortunately for Powell, the Roberts Supreme Court specifically ruled that the president cannot be legally accused of making a bad-faith, pretextual prosecution, but is “absolutely immune” from any questioning of his motives for investigating or prosecuting whoever he chooses

I once again maintain that my current favorite explanation for the operation against Maduro is that the US got tricked into doing all the work in a coup.

A lot of the DHS stuff was trying to solve the issue of inter-department coordination, but it instead created a monster of executive power. The real solution is to create a coordinator role in departments like inspectors general.
Better yet, disestablish all of DHS, and undo the nightmarish idiocies that we created in a panic 25 years ago. Reestablish the INS, get rid of ODNI, fix the damage from the Patriot Act, etc.
For the love of all that is decent and holy: abolish ICE

One of my dumb idle thought projects is trying to think of different structures of Republics: what does a five branch government look like? What about a tricameral system? What other methods are there to divide societal interests in a legislative chamber besides geographical?

Watching Wake Up Dead Man again and the dream sequence is really giving me Lynch vibes, which makes me picture Monsignor Wicks as a kind of BOB figure. Now I'm going to find an edit of that movie with Angelo Badalamenti's music. The Grace flashbacks with Audrey's Dance playing?

I'm starting to come around on seeing Noem's point of view here because Renee Nicole Good was probably nearly as dangerous as a helpless puppy who didn't immediately obey every command, so you can see why Kristi Noem believes she needed to be shot in the head.
Noem: "People need to stop using their vehicles as weapons ... it's clear that it's being coordinated. People are being trained"
