Thanks. I’m familiar with the CHC case. I should ask a bit more precisely: is there a list of DHS statements immediately post-incident together with evidence disproving them? Something that documents the consistent unreliability of those initial statements?

@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social is there a running list of previous DHS statements that have been proven false? A journalist friend is interested in that angle.

It completely holds up on rewatch. And the ending is beautiful.

I once saw a DOJ job listing for a position whose main role was extradition. (Part time, but paid like full-time!) If only I’d researched the job before not applying, I might know the answer!

I was wondering about that. I don’t know criminal venue at all, but is it really just “where did he enter the US”? Or did there need to be some tie to the venue? That would seem to limit it to NY and Miami based on a quick skim of the indictment

As close as I could reasonably hope for

I hope they followed “worry, think about things” with “how’s that working out for you?”

Any results for "How do you sleep at night?" or "How about them apples?"

Very very bad! Incompatible with a free press! This writing has been on the wall since Peter Thiel destroyed Gawker, but it’s gotten so much worse in the last year…

I suspect the fear of a lawsuit is a big factor here. X Corp. v. Media Matters is terrifying - Musk has carte blanche to expose you to ridiculously intrusive discovery and tens of millions in legal fees in the most hostile jurisdiction in America. And will do so on the thinnest of premises.

This week I’ve watched Shiva Baby, Sorry Baby, *and* the back half of Long Story Short. We’re making some questionable choices out here folks

Off-topic, but I forgot that Wag the Dog gave De Niro the worst haircut he’s ever had.

Interesting, thanks.

Offhand I can’t think of a reason they *couldn’t*, though it’s definitely not an area I know.

Lawyer 1: “This campaign to besmirch Mr. Schneider’s reputation, now in its second year,”

Lawyer 2: “Your client looks like he’s angling to replace Mark Ruffalo in a direct-to-video sequel to Poor Things”

I can’t believe this thread is still going on. I hope Schneider threatens to sue and Kruse’s lawyer just writes back “Truth is a complete defense.”
Yeah, man, the only difference between your career and Mark Rufallo’s career is the political stuff.

If Ballotpedia is right, the rule is essentially “no floor votes.”

This seems like a @joshchafetz.bsky.social question - any reason the House and Senate couldn’t changed their rules to allow non-voting delegates to vote on everything except legislation and noms?

Do they get votes on leadership under current rules? If not, that seems like an obvious change to make as well. (I don’t know how the current insular territories’ delegates lean, but better to make it more representative in any case.)

In the middle of a three-week trial, a judge ordered us to negotiate in her chambers while she was out of town. There were fresh-baked cookies. When she got back and we reported that we couldn’t settle any of the claims, she shook her head and said “I’m never baking cookies for you again.”
The late and seriously lamented New York Supreme Court Justice Carol Edmead used to keep a "settlement bowl" of candy in her courtroom. If you settled a case, you got candy.

I never saw a single heated argument in her courtroom; never one attorney who got belligerant.
one unexpected outlook change from being a dad is taking the self care people 10x more seriously when it comes to dealing with weirdly directed anger and rage (including Online). many angry posts should have been naps or little packets of crackers

What evidence do Dems use to argue that unsuccessful impeachments are politically counterproductive? The recent history suggests otherwise. What’s Dem’s response to the fact that the party impeaching Mayorkas, Trump, and Clinton all flipped the presidency in the next election?
