You know what weird insignificant Star Wars sequel trilogy detail I badly want to know? If Harrison Ford really did insist that Kylo Ren’s real name be Ben, what was it BEFORE that? Was it Bail? (Not Jacen, because that sucked in ‘93, sorry Tim.) Did they even have an original choice?

I’m not a Trekkie but I’ve done enough basic research into the Star Trek fandom to know women basically invented it, and are why the show even continued to exist. This kind of writing is part of institutional sexism that denies women’s accomplishments and role in history and it infuriates me

To understand this problem, first, you have to understand the demographics of Star Trek viewers. Trekkies are and always have been men. Women are not usually interested in science fiction, but that’s doubly true of Star Trek in particular.

I hear you, random guy who once knew some lady who watched every Voyager episode. I see you on Instagram, attractive girl cosplaying in Starfleet miniskirts. Unfortunately, you very cool Trek-girls are the exception, not the rule.

The two biggest missed opportunities of the sequels are both ideas that could still work post-TROS with a bit of creativity:

1. Active and extended Ben Solo redemption.

2. A stormtrooper rebellion led and/or inspired by Finn.

Disney execs need to get off YouTube and listen to actual creatives.
