Over 2022 and 2023 I visited (or in the case of eight, revisited) all 26 English medieval cathedrals.

As an #Advent offering I'll be sharing photos here of one cathedral per day. Ish.

Sarah Mullally was confirmed as archbishop of Canterbury on Wednesday, becoming the first woman to lead the Church of England. The worldwide Anglican Communion, which includes the Episcopal Church in the U.S., has no formal head, but the archbishop traditionally has been seen as its spiritual leader.

Impromptu trip to #TewkesburyAbbey for Choral Evensong

I very much enjoyed the music and the sense of peace and breathing space - oh, and the unexpected heating in the quire stalls!

A rather lovely pelican in her piety at All Saints, Oakham.
I wonder if they're meant to be oak leaves?

One of my Spotify playlists, on shuffle, has just started playing John Farnham's 'You're the Voice':

"We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?"

Indeed.

The Hell Mouth of the Doom painting at South Leigh, Oxon, is quite an eye catcher. We see those people who were not selected for Heaven forming a queue for the fiery depths of Hell helped along by gremlins with sharp forks. Nobility, clergy and lesser mortals in life are on their way down!.

I know we are no longer in Christmastide, but...

".. and man, at war with man, hears not
the love-song which they bring:
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
and hear the angels sing."

Longing and praying for a world where people lift each other up, rather than seeking to divide and destroy.

Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

I say to the police that it's important to us, to have the bones back. That whoever they belonged to wanted to be buried, here, at this church. That even though time separates us, time is nothing to God, and they are still part of our community. I say we want to bring them home. To rebury them.

This is a beautiful, thought-provoking thread, funny and poignant at the same time. One of Jay's best, in my opinion (though I'm spoilt for choice).
A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...
