What have sex workers and free speech advocates been saying about age check laws and policies re: adult material and how they will lead to anti-queer discrimination? 🤔

This morning I was joined by Jacob from @workerslit.bsky.social for a discussion that started with William Gibson’s Sprawl trilogy and spread from there: corporate power, technological/spiritual transcendence, and the question of whether there is any hope.

I have been personally harmed by this post (obligatory parentheses to tell you I think you’re doing great, champ)
the AuDHD urge to put additional context in parentheses in texts so others know there’s more than one thought happening at the same time

Jacob went on the Eclectic Radical to talk about William Gibson! Go check it out!
On Sunday Feb 15th, the wonderful comrades from socialistshelf.bsky.social will be making a return appearance on the Eclectic Radical!

We’ll be talking about the work of 1980s SF author William Gibson and how his dystopian future became our very real present.

Captain America literally joined the protesters and beat up the cops during a police riot.
Surely people have more energy for other, more constructive things than constantly trying to dunk on people saying superheroes are progressive

The people pushing the line that Long COVID is completely psychosomatic don’t have a solution for the “social problems” they say cause psychosomatic illness, which means they’re useless even if they’re right.
If you have #LongCOVID, you might want to skip this book - written by a neurologist, whose book, The Age of Diagnosis, "ostensibly makes the case for Long Covid being a (predominantly) psychosomatic condition":

That’s because they’re using “psychosomatic” to mean “made up” instead of “a complicated outgrowth of having a unified bodymind that requires alternative approaches.” Like when doctors call pain “anxiety” bc they don’t want to deal with you.

A really great doctor once told me "psychosomatic doesn't mean the symptoms aren't real and anyone who says otherwise doesn't understand what that word means" and I think about that a lot.

I had a psychotic break that was attributed to depression. I didn't believe it was and begged for an MRI. The psychiatrist wouldn't send me for it. Later my Rheum did and turned out I had brain lesions consistent with CNS lupus. It gets complicated.

Correct, which means Kristi Noem is talking about using federal government policing power to suppress the votes of everyone they don’t believe is “100% American.”

Which is code for conservative white Christians.
When they say the ‘right’ people, they mean the white people.
Full-blown fascism.
Kristi Noem: "When it gets to Election Day, we've been proactive to make sure we have the right people voting, electing the right leaders to lead this country."

Just a reminder that neurologists thought MS was psychosomatic until MRIs proved them wrong.
