We live in a world where the Renny Harlin-directed sequel to the reboot of THE STRANGERS nobody wanted is more entertaining than the latest CONJURING film starring all-time babe Patrick Wilson

That Jason Bateman x Jude Law show BLACK RABBIT is pretty good and I do enjoy how the plot essentially comes down to “there’s always money in the banana stand”

Anand Sudha (@anandsudha.bsky.social) on the similarities and differences between the cinema of Jacques Tati and that of Blake Edwards, as evidenced in THE PARTY (1968). animus-magazine.ghost.io/whos-invited...
"In [Jacques] Tati’s films, chaos is reined in by those who have initiated it themselves: Tati’s humanistic philosophy conceives of people as neither successes nor failures, but as agents able to miraculously adapt after their own mistakes, somehow surviving modernity through an ingenuity that compensates for their bewilderment. As Serge Daney put it, Tati does not need an explosion of chaos because, in his films, chaos always leads to order, and vice-versa. The Party, on the other hand, careens towards catastrophe, with every gag more destructive than the last. Edwards gleefully revels in this outrageous disruption of a bourgeois order that congratulates itself on its comportment and consumption of products."

I loved working with @anandsudha.bsky.social on this piece, whose publication fittingly, but unintentionally coincides with Peter Sellers' centenary this month.

Anand Sudha (@anandsudha.bsky.social) considers his own experience – as film fan and Indian viewer – with Blake Edwards’ controversial, revered comedy THE PARTY (1968), engaging with his own hopes and expectations for the film's acerbic critique of Hollywood: animus-magazine.ghost.io/whos-invited...

This weird-sounding accident took place either while I was watching the virulently anti-Guiliani film CAUGHT STEALING at the cinema yesterday or shortly after. Anyway, good movie!

Here is the same post on BlueSky: notice the absence of soul-crushingly stupid, rage-baiting replies. So much better for my blood pressure. bsky.app/profile/feui...

In 1963, the editors at Cahiers du cinema asked some of their contributors to list the top ten American films of the sound era. Here are some of the ballots

Took a brief look at Twitter and under a post showing Cahiers du Cinéma contributors from 1963 listing their favourite American films of the sound era, some account with a blue tick had commented "nerdy". Such an awful, garbage website.
