I dunno, I think 2024 was the election where the urban/rural split finally established itself in anglo NB. Franco NB voted Liberal because of Higgs' language stances, we'll see if a more amenable PC leader can change that.

New Brunswick doesn't (yet) have this urban/rural split. We still have longtime rural Liberal seats. Susan Holt won her election by picking up swing ridings in Fredericton, Saint John, and Moncton that were no guarantees for her party.

the only provincial Liberal premier left now is Susan Holt.

they call a a majority at 11:02. Not enough votes left in the last riding to be called (Fogo Island-Cape Freels) to make the difference.

CBC finally makes the call at 10:35 NT. PC largest party, not making a call on majority or minority yet.

another hilarious east coast thing - CBC called up indie Paul Lane for an interview and he said they could broadcast live from his house.

“I’ve known Jeff Dwyer a long time, he used to work at the liquor store near my house” is peak East Coast political commentary

...and a 21st seat (Placentia West-Bellevue) flips PC.

NTV ticker has PCs with 21 and also a "NO MAJORITY" graphic at the same time.
electionatlasca.bsky.social
NTV (who uses CTV's decision desk) declares no party will have a majority.... which is a crazy thing to say when one party is one seat short and only 3 votes behind in said seat.

yeah, the pollsters blew it.

A check in on the pollsters at this hour

what was the last election in this country that just flipped back and forth all night like this? NB 2018?
electionatlasca.bsky.social
um....2 seats just flipped PC and now it's 20-16.

popular vote: Liberal 44.2, PC 43.8

knowing that both Lane and Joyce are, well, independents for a reason... would an 18-18-2-2 House of Assembly be workable at all?
electionatlasca.bsky.social
It's back down to 19-17. This might not be over.

the last seat to report, Virginia Waters-Pleasantville, just came in and the Liberals lead. This puts them at 21, the number they need for a majority.

both independent incumbents, Eddie Joyce and Paul Lane, look set to cruise to re-election.

...and in one of those 2 (Gander), the Liberals now have 67% of the vote.

Now LIB 16, PC 13, IND 2, NDP 2, 9 with no results in yet.
electionatlasca.bsky.social
PCs now up in 2 ridings with Liberal incumbents as we speak, although both have fewer than 100 votes in.

way too early, but this seems kinda close for a rock solid blue seat.

polls are now closed in Newfoundland and Labrador.
