A quite startling overperformance for Democrats in tonight's special election for a state Senate seat in Kentucky:

Democrat Gary Clemons won 72% to 25%.

He was defending a Dem-held seat where Kamala Harris beat Trump by 5% last year.

Sears was a bad candidate and had almost no shot right out of the gate, and the GOP ran a terrible campaign from start to finish. Shutdown hurt the GOP but it's not the only reason they lost. Any post-election revision of this by Youngkin or others is objectively wrong.
Spanberger won by 15%

Maybe the shutdown padded her margin

But elections are big ships that are hard to move

A win that big means it wasn’t close all year

Only GOP polls showed it close

Have to be realistic when assessing what happened
