i will say that despite my many misgivings with wilds (performance, kind of offensive colonialist stereotypes of ‘bons sauvages’, non existent difficulty curve and extraneous player power) it’s still my favourite of the “post-monster hunter” games from world onwards

on days when her memory finds me it drags kicking and screaming a vile apparition of a teenage boy trying desperately to be something she’s not, it explains with no uncertainty that change must be a constant deliberate effort for it to be worth anything. anything less is to forget yourself.

when she became homeless she would call me from the shelter, i drank myself sick on stolen liquor and made it everyone else’s problem. my friends told me to chase it with arsenic next time i wanted to sob story about how everyone hates my shitty girlfriend. she was happy her misery had company.

today she would be 32, when we met i was 16. such was our love that she with both hands parted the sister banks of a Rubicon in me - dividing the ‘me’ that is an animal fearing in a bad mockery of adulthood, and the ‘me’ that is several that wear this face solemnly. and ne’er the twain shall meet.
