Autistic humans don’t burn out from being autistic.

We burn out from pretending we’re not.

From jobs, families, and systems that punish difference and call it “help”.

Recovery isn’t about fixing us.

It’s about changing the conditions.

Even one small one at first is already a huge step.

This year’s theme, “Mental health in humanitarian emergencies”, reminds us that mental health support is not a luxury. It is a necessity that must reach everyone, especially those already living at the margins of care.

Poster for World Mental Health Day 2025 by Scottish Ethnic Minority Autistics (SEMA). The design features the SEMA logo at the top, followed by the text ‘World Mental Health Day, 10 October 2025’. Below, there is an illustration of a blue human silhouette with an open doorway in the head, from which colourful plants and leaves emerge, symbolising growth and mental wellbeing. A green awareness ribbon appears on the lower right, with soft floral accents and pastel clouds in the background.

It’s world mental health day. Trying to access an education should not make you mentally unwell, cause burnout, increase anxiety so much you can’t eat. Make you so dysregulated you hit out in school or once your home. Schools aren’t “ safe” spaces for thousands of neurodivergent kids. Please stop

Why are some people STILL finding ways to divide (and try to conquer) #Autistic people by categorising them into #ProfoundAutism (tragic! bad!) and "Highly Sensitive People" (barely autistic at all! far more acceptable!)

We've a better way of explaining neurological variety now:

Neurodiversity.
thinkingautism.com
"Because of the media's relentless negativity, fearmongering, & pseudoscience in covering autism, “ #profoundAutism " communities are often magnets for parents whose goal is to cure or treat autism, instead of understanding how to support an autistic child."

Me too oldest one 20 and youngest 17. I’m so enjoying our lives just now. I can’t imagine life once they leave. They threatened to stay forever though 🤣
empoweredscotland.bsky.social
I’ve always thought I was raised by them. 🤣

Isn’t that everything in reality.

I didn’t either wasn’t a considered parenting decision. It’s their thinking.

I’m lucky my kids live in “real world “ mainly not interested in TikTok etc. definitely having interests in Art and history are an antidote to encroaching irrational fears due to feeling massively under threat as you say. Being in nature lets you breathe too. Everything is too consumable.
empoweredscotland.bsky.social
Yes this is true there’s a lack of confidence in ourselves and less risk taking ( minimal life risks of unknown). Which it no more is now than any other period of time. En masse catastrophic thinking? It’s a very strange time.
empoweredscotland.bsky.social
It’s interesting and terrifying. Is it simply social media platforms? Climate crisis causing apathy on a grande scale coupled with hedonism and misplaced anger as subconsciously we know our environment has changed so much we preparing to battle for safe spaces. That’s probably far fetched.

Concerning not to see ref to reasonable adjustments.

The @autisticgirlsnet.bsky.social has a good list:

Also concerning that the author advocates for the withdrawal of scaffolding ASAP. This might not be safe, eg due to risk of #burnout.

There is no point disciplining a dysregulated child. Wait and discuss it with them when they’re calm. 😊
