My letter published in today's @irishtimes.com

Player dropout is a significant issue and disproportionately impacts smaller clubs.
For small clubs just 2 or 3 players can be the difference between having a team and not.

Found at home.
Printed by Dennehy Photography 12 Cecil St.
I reckon it was taken close to the junction between O'Connell St and Cecil St looking up towards The Crescent.
Have also convinced myself I can make out 'The Brazen Head' sign next door to Patrick O'Grady.

A calm yet devastating dissection of the misinformation being spread around by some public representatives & interested parties in relation to the Nitrates Poison Licenc...sorry, derogation.

I know the #IrishTimes food section is always hilariously Dublin-focused but a feature on restaurants 'worth a journey' having zero in the capital surely seals the deal.
(Hoo-boy sure we only come up for the All Ireland & the 8th December!)

Well done @hannahdaly.ie
I always go back to The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson

How the snail, so small and frail, with her looping, curling, silvery trail,
Saved the life of the humpback whale.
Then the humpback whale held out his tail and on crawled
snail
after
snail
after
snail.

I appreciate Cllr Reale speaking up but exactly what improvements are needed? It's a clearly marked pedestrian crossing & the issue is bad driving.
Speeding, aggression & phone use are rampant and no amount of flashing signs, paint on the road or other 'awareness' measures will fix that

Eschewing Bullshit Friday "deals" to go buy a drum stool from a wee family owned music shop that's been there for a million years. Got a cup of tea, a long chat about the relative merits of new and old country music, a tenner knocked off because "sure didn't I know your granda" and a better stool

Very sorry to hear this, I only discovered The Jazz Show last night and was searching for a contact to pass on my thanks to Gavin Walker. Condolences to his family, friends & listeners.
I look forward to making my way through the archive.
goddammit, I noticed that the CITR Jazz podcast hadn't posted since summer, and confirmed that the incredible host Gavin Walker passed away

i would not appreciate the form if not for this show, and for Gavin's encyclopedic knowledge, and well worth going through the archives

A person rolled their car into my teenage son a fortnight ago. It was broad daylight and the driver was looking down while their car was rolling forward. I know, because I was yelling, trying to get their attention. Drivers who don't see us are often not looking.
My son hasn't cycled since
👀 Can you see me now?

The importance of visibility on our roads cannot be understated, particularly for vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter drivers and motorcyclists.

€30 each in case you were wondering.
Or 45,249 of them for the average cost of one fatal RTC (€1,357,489)
At 10m spacing that's 452,490m of road for each fatal crash.
452km x 160 fatal rtc (2024) is 73,000km
Save 160 lives & cover 75% of our entire regional & local road network. Win.
Won't happen.

An appalling tragedy. My condolences to his family and all who knew him.
I agree 100% with @cianoconcubhair.bsky.social closing point - the determination to absolve from any blame the driver of a car whose actions alone were responsible for the death of a person is beyond my understanding.
For the record

I am not advocating for a custodial sentence here

I'm not saying that's necessarily appropriate

I'm pointing to his abhorrent rationale for the sentence
