For the past few months, I’ve attended dozens of protests and taken thousands of photos, to the tune of something like 42 million views online and a whole lot of comments.

David Farrier let me write about my main takeaway from this year, which is: Uh oh!!

The Meaning of a Photograph
Eric Langberg argues we are experiencing a massive breakdown in the way humans process communication and the very act of meaning-making." Webworm with David Farrier

Who do you go to for help when, in front of a room of some of the most powerful people in LA, a policeman laughs with a man wearing a swastika *while* the mother of a man murdered by the government sobs and begs those powerful people — ignoring the cop laughing with swastika man — for justice?

At the first LA City Council meeting of the year

There’s a guy in a swastika hoodie

Someone confronted him

LAPD kicked out THAT guy for being disruptive

And then laughed with the guy in the swastika hoodie about it

Gotta say: I am really losing patience for the "What are we even supposed to do?!" posts from people who have been doing nothing except posting "What are we even supposed to do?!" every six weeks, whenever another escalation finally gets national attention.

...idk, but, do more than that!

You shouldn’t avoid protesting from fear of martial law, they should fear getting to the point that they’ll need to implement it. Don’t police your reactions, police their actions. They are the criminals not you.

The fact that ICE just straight-up murdered a woman named Good is the kind of thing that’s so on-the-nose it would be rejected by a creative writing 101 professor. Yet here we are.
The woman murdered by ICE: 37-year-old Renee Good.

Renee Nicole Good had a 6-year-old son, according to the Star Tribune. His father died in 2023 at the age of 36, so he is left without parents.

It's January 5th.

My photos are already at 1.35 million views on Reddit so far this year.

And "reality" is dead.

Happy New Year, y'all!

This would be LAPD directly collaborating with ICE to cover up their crimes
Still unreported, should be investigated:

ICE shot Richard outside a mall. I visited mall security office. Guard said ICE and LAPD came in, used thumb drive to copy mall’s video footage, and THEN DELETED THE EVIDENCE from mall’s local drives. He showed me the missing timeline part saying “no data.”
Huge win for Richard Noticias LA, TikTok journalist shot by ICE. Criminal charges dismissed with prejudice, meaning can’t be refiled.

ICE did him DIRTY. Repeatedly. Inhumane treatment, basically medical torture.

Still in ICE custody on immigration case. They owe him unconditional release.

She’s so intellectually bankrupt it’s insane. The damage this is all doing to the social fabric is just… Idk how we come back from *gestures* all this.

If she had any integrity at all she’d be pushing back on Stephen Miller saying “fire them all,” but she does not. Actively dangerous woman.
Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."

HIGHEST 2 LOWEST – Something fascinating about a movie about old vs. new school rap culture snapping HARD into place when Rosie “Do The Right Thing” Perez & Anthony “Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton” Ramos play themselves at a Puerto Rican celebration through the streets of the Bronx. Great movie.

This discourse has been very strange. The reasoning is nonsensical, and I think it's actively harmful to our understanding of what "the Epstein Files" are, what they show, what they don't, and what they mean going forward.

I wrote about it here:

The reaction to this has me feeling *insane.*

That is quite clearly not the same photo. It is a different photo from a different angle, taken at nearly the same moment.

People are talking about the Getty photographer suing the govt! You can’t all tell that’s a different photo?! What is HAPPENING
The White House has been caught.

The administration inserted a photo of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross into the Epstein files and falsely implied it showed them with victims.

In reality, it’s a publicly available fundraiser photo featuring Jackson and Ross’s own children.

And finally, the assault on Section 230. This is the endgame for independent speech.

If you repeal 230, you don’t hurt Google or Meta—they have the lawyers to survive. You destroy the small forums, the independent blogs, the dissenters. You make the cost of speaking the truth too high to bear.
How Democrats’ Attack On Section 230 Plays Right Into Trump’s Censorial Plans
Like clockwork, lawmakers are once again rallying around the idea of eliminating Section 230. That Republicans are leading this charge is hardly surprising—repealing Section 230 is explicitly laid …

Last night I cried at a Planning Commission meeting in a town I'd never been to.

The largest ICE Detention Facility in the state is in California City. It's been operating for months, for-profit, out of a defunct prison in the Mojave.

They torture people there.
