Dickens-era Gin Punch

It was too warm on Xmas to make this, so I'm busting it out on NYE.

Tiny Tim did NOT die, and he had a healthy serving of this concoction of GIN and SHERRY.

One of the things that I'm proud of in Sword Opera is: we took what in Blades or FitD games would be Downtime actions and turned them into Vignettes which occur during the main phase of play.

You use Vignettes to heal, train, mend, etc.,and they come with some narration. It lets the story breathe.
Random #ttrpg design tip:

How you recover points in a resource may be just as crucial and interesting as how you spend it.

If it's very far from that, should it even be that kind of resource? Would you prefer rolling for it?

We can always look at boardgames for infinite ideas of mechanics.

I posted a not fun update to my GoFundMe. I fell and broke my back. I'm almost certainly paralyzed for life. I'll start a new GoFundMe when I know more what my life will look like in the future, but until then donations will help with lost income and my mom to pay for gas and VERY expensive parking.

My End of Year video is on the "Golden Age of Indie RPGs," from roughly 2010 to 2025. I start with Apocalypse World's release, work through the Google+ Era, and follow design lineages and historical events that have impacted the hobby up through 2025.

My stamp order ✉️ just arrived, and they are fresh. Some of them are new from the postal service just a few months ago, and I am eager to put them to use. So if you would like a zine mailed to you with fresh stamps I have some good ones in my pinned thread:

Sword Ballet? 🤔
I'm going to make an RPG of The Nutcracker, and it's going to be two entirely disparate halves: the first part is a tactical maps and minis wargame about the battle of the mice and the tin soldiers, and the second part is a melodramatic romance game about the sugar plum fairy and the cavalier

I'm just tickled thinking about explaining to Edvard Munch or some 15th century woodcutter that we were inspired by their art to make a game about writing a horror-tinged diary or a little goblin that's actually a sky-pirate.
... long dead, because if someone were inspired like this about something I made I'd be excited to see it, and I feel I want to send them the games (when they're done) so they can see how they inspired me.

I send every game/zine someone buys from me as stamped letter mail. It has been several thousand dollars in stamps over the past three years.

Tell me you notice and love them among your deliveries?

With every corner of the internet getting worse, 2026 might be a good time to see if we can dramatically increase the use of first class postage stamps.

In the middle of binding a personal copy of the #TTRPG Sword Opera by @ericfarmer.bsky.social et al.

Spun some of my own thread from existing strands of burgundy, blue, and grey. It felt like it fit the San Mercurio setting without being stereotypically associated with any Italian city.

Hell yeah, Hearts of Wulin is incredible!
Soup drama, relationship drama: Road to Empress' success as a streaming game phenomenon tells us there's a lot of potential Hearts of Wulin lovers out there.
Hearts of Wulin is a parade of over-the-top feelings and action at the same time
I love a game where the best thing to do is also the worst one.
