“Let us be clear: we want the power of the state. We wish to hold the criminals of the regime accountable. We wish to seize back the public funds looted by Trump and his cronies. We wish to undo the damage he has done to the government. More than any of that we wish to rebuild.”
From Powerlessness to Power
We will not achieve any of our ultimate goals without exercising state power, and the most effective way to take state power is through nonviolent but confrontational resistance.

This @warontherocks.bsky.social piece (warontherocks.com/2026/01/gaza...) on Israel's conduct in Gaza is devastating and ought to put solidly to rest the undead claim that Israel was exercising some sort of exceptional restraint.

I look forward to the folks claiming that studiously not reading it.
Gaza and the Conduct of Urban War: Civilian Harm, Risk, and Responsibility
Urban warfare is often invoked as an alibi: dense terrain, an embedded enemy, human shields, imperfect intelligence. These conditions are real but they do

In my ongoing attempts to give you a break from *gestures widely* THE HORRORS:

Let's talk about the utterly bizarre science of cats' purring.

Here's a weird starting point:
There are NO cats (Felidae) that can BOTH roar AND purr.

Cats that roar = genus Panthera
Cats that purr = genus Felis

Is this libelous? Attaching someone's face to actions that they were not associated with? Could you write a headline "Man fucks pig" with Trump's picture as long as some other person had fucked a pig?
Using a photo of the guy open carrying from a completely different neighborhood in the city to represent protestors and supposedly congregants who got angry at a pastor who is working as the field director of ICE is just fucking egregious.

Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"
A St. Paul resident says federal officers knocked on her door and asked her to identify Hmong and Asian households in her North End neighborhood last week.

The winner of today's one-liner goes to a guy who looked like he was sleeping.

Scene: the ENT clinic, waiting for audiologist

Asst calls a name three times.

Asst (just loudly enough to be heard): I really wish people would pay attention.

Guy: I bet many of the people here wish they could hear.

Except, @chatterton.bsky.social, one of these two people is facing both state and federal charges, including the death penalty.

Whereas Jonathan Ross is being actively protected by an administration that started defaming Renee Good before her body was cold.

That is a meaningful difference!

So to return to this: Mussolini had 200,000 blackshirts for the March on Rome in a country of ~35m. Hitler had 400,000 brownshirts in 1932 in Germany for a population of ~60m.

So around 0.6% of the population.

0.6% of 340m Americans is just over 2 million.

They do not have enough goons.
In 1932, on the eve of seizing power, the Nazi goon army - the Sturmabteiling or SA - numbered 400,000 members. By 1933, it was over two *million.*

DHS has 240,00 employees and lot of those are non-goons who have, you know, real jobs.

Here's the kicker.
