Judge Ellis, throughout this hearing, has repeatedly said that the version of the facts provided by DHS officers is not credible. She has cited video evidence and testimony in court that undermines what government officials have said publicly.
Ellis notes that the feds argue "plaintiffs have not been engaged in First Amendment protected activity" because they've "intermingled themselves with rioters."

"But as I've previously stated," Ellis says, "I don't find defendants' version of events credible."

There is a compromise on the table to get this deal done and reopen the government while keeping health insurance premiums down. But the sole problem, plain and simple, is Mike Johnson.

Up in the UP, a reporter informed me that at least one local Republican elected official said that claims of rising healthcare costs is “a myth.”

Nothing about the letter you’re receiving in your hands - or the price hikes you see as you navigate open enrollment - is a myth.

Jeffries: "This from a group of people who somehow found $40b to bail out their right-wing dictator friend in Argentina. Republicans put Argentina first. And they can't find a dime to extend ACA tax credits? That's part of the reason why Republicans were rejected all across the country, pummeled."

As this administration plays its shitty politics, many of our neighbors are experiencing great hardship. If you are in a position to do so, please consider donating to your local food bank. I give to our Community Food Bank of Southern AZ and have just upped my monthly donation to help right now.

If the sub didn’t split, you must acquit!
Defense begins, “This case, ladies and gentlemen, is about a sandwich. A sandwich that according to Agent Lairmore somehow both exploded on his chest in a spray of mustard and onions but also landed intact on the ground still in its Subway wrapper.”

Neither of my parents went to college. I graduated from Georgetown University without any debt and without paying a cent because of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which Nancy Pelosi got passed over opposition from the Bush administration and congressional Republicans. She fought for us. And she won.

When many other Democratic leaders in Congress were cravenly supporting the run-up to the Iraq War, Nancy Pelosi opposed it and whipped votes in the House against it.

She has many other career accomplishments but that brave and prescient stand is what I'll remember.

It's so funny that the White House has decided, since Tuesday evening, that its big focus will be costs — after eight months of splattering gold paint all over the White House and after a big Roaring '20s party at the private club the president bought from a Post cereals heiress.

Some on the far right want to repeal the 19th amendment. Many more share a coercive, patriarchal view of women.

I wrote about this and how the far right sees subjugating women as key to building the sort of electorate they need to win. @liberalcurrents.com

Lawyer: The Constitution, our framers, and 238 years of American history all say only Congress has the power to impose tariffs on the American people. Tariffs are nothing but taxes on the American people, paid by Americans. This case is about upholding the separation of powers.

Today, Mike Johnson will keep the House adjourned for the 94th day out of the last 106.

12 days of work in 106 days.

With full pay and benefits.

The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.

The emphasis on family policy is very evident in Heritage’s policy work.

One draft paper we obtained proposed a “Manhattan Project” for more babies.

A subsequent draft floats giving straight married couples an extra “half vote” in federal elections for each of their children.

When I tell you *a lot* went into this story, I mean it.

- Recordings of internal meetings
- Leaked audio from phone calls
- Internal chat logs
- Drafts of secret policy papers
- Interviews with nearly two dozen sources

Thank you for supporting journalism that does this kind of work.

Reporting this story, I heard near universal concern from Heritage staff of discrimination against unmarried women.

Then I obtained a letter to the Heritage board from anonymous staffers that alleged the same thing — and more.

Heritage is aware that alleged behavior could create legal trouble.

At a meeting yesterday, staff voiced deep concern about anti-Jewish sentiment at Heritage and on the right.

That was followed by a Heritage staffer complaining about attending a Shabbat dinner.
