as a thought exercise for everyone reading ross douthat's latest missive in the NYT, i want you to think about sending an email to your entire company with the subject line "Did Women Ruin the Workplace?", then think about the over/under on the number of minutes/hours you would still be employed

If the Nuzzi blast radius doesn't impact both the new editor of VF and the NYT profiler, then something wrong. Holy shit.

Where are all of Nuzzi’s defenders now? You know the ones like Ben Smith who started circle the wagons last fall. The ones who congratulated her when she got the job at VF. Where are they now?

I think that it is bad that the National Guard is deployed in a city for absolutely no reason and today's tragedy could be easily avoided by not deploying the guard for made-up reasons.

Annnnnnd now the West Virginia governor says he's not sure about the condition of the National Guardsmen.

Maybe best to not tweet out that they are both dead until, you know, you KNOW that is absolutely the case...

I think we can safely say that the Leavitt's brother called ICE on his ex, the mother of his child, and I have to say: I have no desire to respect, find common ground or share the country with these monsters.
“After Ferreira was detained, Dos Santos Rodrigues said Michael Leavitt Sr. and his father, Bob Leavitt, reached out to her.”

“‘They just kept saying, ‘Tell her to self-deport,’” she recalled. “Self-deport to where? Brazil is not her home.’” www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/26/m...

Bruna Ferreira, 33, was brought to the United States as a child in 1998. She is now in removal proceedings in Louisiana.

she's going to spend the rest of her miserable and stupid life in prison
The first official confirmation that Noem herself made the decision not to turn the planes around. A couple hundred men were tortured as a result — and soon after, the Supreme Court confirmed that the Trump admin’s Alien Enemies Act process was a total violation of due process.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

RFK Jr. is neither a joke nor a well-intentioned proponent of public health with a few kooky beliefs. He's a menace, evil even by the standards of Trump's inner circle, and the failure of the political press to convey this is maddening
I actually think it’s okay to take a ridiculous scandal seriously when it involves a wingnut conspiracy theorist in charge of things like vaccine policy and pandemic preparedness

bsky hates pumpkin pie and y’all are great but apparently also delusional, it’s the best pie on earth
Stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie are largely reserved for holiday feasts not because they’re “special” but because they’re gross actually, fight me
my take on Food Discourse is that it's always ridiculous but it's also nice to be fighting about dumb internet shit again instead of dealing with Oppressive Despair all the time so please keep posting your bad takes

i get an equal amount of hate for this view but I don't care: i love pumpkin pie, it is the best pie on earth, and it is better than 99% of cakes
I get a lot of hate for this view and in turn I'd only ask if you've ever had a pie as good as a typical cheesecake. The answer is no, you have not. Cheesecake invalidates the whole pie category. Hell, regular cake barely survives the cheesecake onslaught on the strength of carrot cake alone.
The dirty secret of pies is that they have the lowest ceiling potential of all sweets. Your best pie is merely fine. Your median pie is bad.

the problem for republicans is that pivoting to affordability requires people who know policy, and they've spent the last decade drumming nearly everyone who knows policy out of the government; they're currently as capable of pivoting to affordability as patrick mahomes is of pivoting to left tackle
i continue to think that the republican pivot to affordability puts them on uniquely unfavorable terrain for them

Yep. Manning's tough because a) he played during an era with a *lot* of HOF worthy QBs, and whether he's in the top 5 in his era is up for debate, and b) his end stage career was a mess. The highs were very high, though, and they let Favre in, who put up more than his share of stinkers.
I don't think Eli Manning is a Hall of Famer, but I would love more folks on both sides to land on, "This is a unique and complicated case," which it clearly is, rather than "ALL BALL-KNOWERS AGREE THAT ELI STINKS AND THIS IS STOOPID" or "TWO RINGS, 'NUFF SAID."
