From the land to the slaves who built it, this is a country built almost *entirely* on stolen goods.

We have always traded oil for blood. Every single last drop.

break apart google and make the search function a tax funded service.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

He's one of the most unifying people of the 21st century, but the ultra rich *desperately* need him to be seen as "divisive."

east to west jet-lag is fun because one gets to pretend that they're a super productive early morning person without putting in any work.

Sometimes that's just making food.

Sometimes it's patiently waiting for them in a park while I entertain myself.

Sometimes it's installing infrared windows so the sun in their studio isn't too hot.

What I get out of it is seeing their work grow and evolve. And also a house filled with art.

whether it is self-maintenance, the maintenance that others do for you, or you do for others, this critical act is something i've come to recognize as equally important as the creative pursuits it enables.

my partner is a painter. my part in their work is making it possible for them to paint.

I met Deb many years ago at the hight of the "maker movement" frenzy.

Her essays on the infrastructure, systems, people and maintenance that make "making" even possible in the first place have stuck with me since then.

This is a good story. 🫜
In Tesco’s this afternoon: an elderly Polish man at the self-checkout, trying to buy a pint of milk and a white radish. There is no picture for the radish on the machine. The assistant doesn’t know what it is. She asks a colleague: “It’s a white radish.” There is no entry for it on the machine.

the part i find infuriating is that anyone has to enter alt text in the first place.

it should auto-populate with the option to edit.

So I’m very committed to critiquing elected officials, and cringe at cults of personality and all that leftist jazz— but is Zohran, like, a sorcerer?

roboticist here: there are a few things at play.

the benign one is "modern spaces are designed for humans."

coupled to that is a less benign reason: "the primary market for humanoid robots is replacing humans with machine slaves."
