That person you know from somewhere
Working for pennies in a Maine textile mill seemed preferable to being a subsistence farmer in Yorkshire.
Genuinely curious: If your family is American, what brought them here?
Mine: religious nuttery & primogeniture

This gets incredulous looks every time I say it:

Reese's.

For that matter, ANY combination of chocolate and peanuts. Why do this? There are far better things to do with both chocolate and peanuts.
Guys, I really need to talk about something dumb and meaningless. What's a universally beloved sweet treat that you think is just mid? For me, it's meringue.

Yep! J-term IIRC my junior year.

That "comparative study of the Inklings" included their private letters to each other. Which included their dissing of each others' writing. Fucking hilarious.

Oh, I know. I grew up in the country. I am quite familiar.

Probably. Also, a person who was missing teeth *and* limbs talked to me about fishing in the checkout line.

Because the airline lost my suitcase, today I got to go to a Wal-Mart in rural Appalachia to buy socks and underpants.

It was a very "rural Appalachia Wal-Mart" experience.

TL;DR: if you JUST inhale the yogurt, you choke. If you ALSO immerse your mouth and nose with it AND it is liquid, you also drown in it.

I love Venn diagrams.
July 18, 2025 at 3:08 PM
See, "choking" specifically refers to a physical blockage of the airway, via an internal or external force. "Drowning" means blockage of the airway due to immersion of the mouth/nose in liquid. "Liquid" can of course mean a collection of solids that BEHAVE like a liquid, like sand. Or yogurt.

I know you probably weren't looking for an actual answer, but technically, the answer is yes, both, if the yogurt can be classified as a liquid.

The important thing about singing Gaudeamus is that you stomp your feet on the third verse *slightly* off the beat.

I hereby declare you an honorary Smithie.

I give you the lyrics to "Gaudeamus Igitur," a memory of Quad Riot 2004, and the ability to vandalize the Wikipedia page of the college president.

Guys, I love all of you, but the answer to RFK, Jr. is not that autistic adults hold jobs, pay taxes, and get laid, it's that everyone deserves to live even if they can't work, pay taxes, or get laid.

I’m struck by how close we’re getting to finally curing some of the world’s worst diseases—sickle cell, Alzheimers, pancreatic cancer, etc.—at the same time that the world’s worst people are destroying medical research and care around the world.

Chuck Schumer looked Ady Barkan in the eye and said he was going to work really hard to include home care in Build Back Better.

He had already signed a deal with Manchin to exclude it.

Ma'am, if you decide to run, I'm all in.
KEEP CALLING. PEEL OFF ALL DEM SENATORS YOU CAN.

☎️: (202) 224-3121

Tell them to vote NO on Cloture and NO on CR. Vote is pushed to after 1:15ish for now. Situation is fluid.

The only public YES votes are Schumer and Fetterman. They need 7-8 total. KEEP CALLING.

Call retiring Senators too!

The grimmest realization is not the very old one that Trump is a hyper-sensitive narcissist who thinks criticizing him should be illegal.

The grimmest realization is that a substantial number of Americans are born serfs, best suited for a monarchy, who thinks that’s manly and admirable and right.
Trump at the DOJ: "I believe that CNN and MSNDC, who literally write 97.6% bad about me, are political arms of the Democrat Party. And in my opinion, they are really corrupt and they are illegal. What they do is illegal."

I was hasty here. He is also blaming disabled people. And probably women. I’m not gonna listen to the presser. Probably some combo of all of the above. Because he’s an ableist, misogynistic, racist dude. He’s not blaming DEI, is the point. He’s targeting specific marginalized groups bc he’s a bigot.

I know this isn’t a new thought but today of all days, to run headlines with that line about blaming DEI, when he’s just being fucking racist is absolutely disgusting. This industry has a major problem and is not prepared to meet this moment. It’s awful.
