The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

this is something that individual members of Congress could do tomorrow. The government is shut down so they could use their district offices. I suggested in January that they turn those offices into full on community centers where people could find each other re: mutual aid etc...
If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net
some of you have really weird red lines for who you will and won’t be in community with. it’s concerning.

White men get raised very differently from everyone else in the US so they end up going through Nazi phases because they either don't realize that other people are people or because they're pissed that other people are people and they can't control them.
I’ve found ways to feel joy amidst chaos. I’ve forged paths through a soul overgrown with myth to fill spirit-killing spaces neglect created.

I found this a really illuminating thread on what demonstrations do and why they matter.
In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Something maybe worth noting is that all the frog costumes and signs and good-natured memeing came about because a wide spectrum of Americans saw someone in direct, brave confrontation with ICE—getting pepperballed and standing their ground—and thought “that’s awesome. That person is a hero”

My hot take is that none of these are structure. These are all recipes that describe structure.

Structure is the Salt, Fat, Acid Heat of writing.

3-Act/Hero's Journey etc are recipes.

You can make great meals without using a recipe if you understand the principles of structure.
So #WritingCommunity how do we feel about structure?

Do you use the 3 act structure? The 5 act?

Hero's Journey? Save the Cat? Super Structure Method? Story Genius Method?

Something else?

What have you got?

Me: I’m sapiosexual.

You: Ah, attracted to smart people.

Me: (putting a tap in a maple tree in full bondage gear) What?
All of my former students and colleagues, my neighbors, my clients and customers, hell, even my sketchy boss who was fired for embezzlement… we are all better than the current POTUS & his administration in just about every way. Don’t let the bootlicking sycophants suggest otherwise.
I will be playing the role of Captain Obvious today, since the obvious seems to have become kinda unclear to the “leaders” of this “free” country.
Pretty sure almost everyone I’ve ever known—and most of everyone I’ve never known and will never know—is more deserving of peace prize than Donald Trump. Yeah, I said it, and you can, too.

just watched a dozen people ask microsoft copilot experts their most pressing questions and those questions were 90% “how do i turn it off?” and “when i turn it off, is it really off or is it spying on me?”

people don’t understand that data center resource consumption driven by AI is just like… giving a person climbing a mountain a set of encyclopedias to carry with them

adapting to climate change was already a struggle, and now we have carry all this extra shit that provides no added value

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself
An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.
