On his election in 1655, Pope Alexander VII commissioned Gian Lorenzo Bernini to sculpt a skull in marble, which he kept on his desk as a reminder of death's omnipresence. The sculpture was rediscovered in 2021 at Schloss Pillnitz, Dresden

Yeah Shizuku-tan's hair is black in canon and the purple was a concession to her image color

But you see cosplayers now with almost lilac, which is fun, but so interesting to see how abstracted it got from the original black hair

Ran a machine stitch and pulled it instead of going upstairs to use the ruffler foot again

Now it just needs seam finishing and pressing and the ruffle will be done

I ran out of ruffle this far from the end :']

Lace!
I have the lace², then added the loopy boy, then slapped on more of the small lace to hide the join between lace² and the loopy boy better

Ignore my yet to be clipped threads but I used white bobbin so it won't show through

Also I both Know Better (unless it's debt consolidation, blahblah specific circumstances where you would) and have only ever had one credit card so I don't actually know that feeling but I'm sure this is the sewing equivalent

This is the internet so I'm adding caveats to a shitpost lmao

It depends on the costume

I was originally going to use a rose brocade for this one but decided that the lace overlay had a richer look and better texture. A lot of things are clearly a print or work better as one, but sometimes you get things that could go either way like this

Winding your bobbin with the last of your thread feels like using a credit card to pay off your credit card

Hand finished the inside of the hakama waistband
Just need to hem it, do the lace, and and press the pleats again

Thankfully it's much easier to notice haha

The universe wants me to work on the black parts of the costume I guess!

Good thing I love doing tiny hems on fabric that was ripped on the grain because this costume has a LOT of ruffles 🧡

I did all that stitching on the top of the waistband and then I realized.

Straps.

I'm going to have to undo it lmaoooo

Yeah you have to either like be able to tolerate the ecchi and such, and that makes it so hard to recommend to people, especially those not already into anime

It's so good though!! Should be required reading for newbie cosplayers (minus the brownface) lmao

........nope that was going to bug me not stitching up the rest of that seam tonight so I tossed in a light grey bobbin
It will be encased and it's light enough to not show, and now I at least have the parts attached

Anyway wow look at all those nice gathers that are sewn for more than two inches

Two threads for extra stability and evenness, and gathered this way instead of by ruffler foot to customize the size

I like to pin in the center and then gather so they're even on both sides

Lmao alright I was going to have nice progress on attaching the apron to the waistband but I ran out of bobbin. Uh. Here.

I had been doing all the same color because too lazy to switch thread but looks like I'll be locked into white for a while 🤣

Working on the apron waistband

It has two layers of interfacing for extra opacity and stiffness (without having to buy more interfacing lmao)

And some lovely decorative satin stitching, absolutely not where I accidentally cut a hole in it

Back to hakama

I interfaced the waistband. Waow. I also sewed this seam across the top and cut the fabric there. This will be a seam on the final piece that I insert lace into, but I wanted it sewn and pressed and make it easier on future me haha
