The cover for Book 1 of "Glowing Hearts," an ongoing webcomic that I, Penelope Merch-Lehman, am making. It's like a harem comedy anime, but instead it's poly because that fixes everything. Shelley, the main character of book 1 is a cute trans weirdo who is a compulsive joke-maker. I have recently been informed that she is likely on the autism spectrum, and has ptsd and borderline personality disorder. This was news to me! The secondary protagonist is Tisl Ashwood. She's brash, bold, and incredibly insecure. She's a shapeshifter, so she mostly looks like that on purpose, because why wouldn't you? The tertiary protagonist is Wistare Coronatus, a recently deposed princess of an underground kingdom of gopher people. She's haughty and rude, but well-meaning. She's used to asking for things her way, and not getting it. She's pushing 50, amongst other things.

If you make something popular enough eventually you will die or sell it off and and a person in thick rimmed glasses whose main artistic vision is that he loves to have meetings will take it and sandblast it until it's nothing. I hate to see this happen here but maybe it's good that this happened. Maybe every franchise should collapse into a version of itself that makes shareholders nod and shake each others' hands. We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.

Tisl Valentine's Card, wishing you well

It should be noted that I think that would be nice too, if that's what you're looking for, but I'm not as emphatic about it. Full disclosure - the pose is either based off of a photo of @Felexiia or a drawing by @xiaowoo.jp, and generally I don't credit poses that inspired me to draw something, since I usually change them pretty significantly, and generally no one else really credits pose reference, but they're both pro-clicks regardless. Other illustrations are of her in a slightly messy button down and tie holding a box of "not poison!" brand chocolates, and one of her with an excited expression, wearing pajamas and holding stuffy versions of Wistare and Shelley. She is in her meliae form in all three of these drawings.

Compiling the archival version of chapters 12 and 13 of Glowing Hearts and I have to ask: Why these three movies, of all movies, did I choose to parody the poster of???
Chapter 12-1, now titled Trapped in a Box (somehow the first ska song chapter title), which is based off of the poster for horrible brandsploitation drek "Mac and Me." Jessica also references this movie at one point in chapter 7 or 8. Chapter 12-2, now titled "Don't Haunt This Place." This poster is based off the cinematic Yaoi experience "Point Break," by known fujoshi and Oscar winner Katherine Bigelow Chapter 12-3, now titled "The Devil's Dance Floor," which is actually referencing Tisl's pelvic walls. It is based off of furry post-apocalyptic punk cult classic "Rock & Rule," made by Nelvana Pictures. Sadly the full soundtrack was never released, and a clean version of "Send Love Through" does not exist, at least publicly. I waffled on renaming this chapter "Send Love Through," but it felt a little on the nose, even if it's sort of themed around it.

My writing style is to do the big, important beats first, and then the connective tissue.
The connective tissue tends to be where the good jokes and weird little character moments happen. Some of the biggest revalations I've had about characters comes from these moments.
