Anyway, I'm trying to get USAA to hurry and close the accident investigation on the last car we had totaled by a driver who hit us so that I can quit buying their insurance.

I mentioned that's why we don't have a Ring doorbell. I'm not wild about having footage from my house subpoenaed by police. And this rep said: "Why? That seems like a great thing to improve safety." Yeah, it's not. I'm still amazed everyone wants to just give away all their privacy ...

I haven't personally had an accident I caused for more than 25 years. But we've had our cars hit A LOT, and USAA has often treated us shabbily even when we weren't at fault. And now I'm paying HUGE insurance rates because we now have three kids driving ...

A 15 year old boy with autism went missing earlier this week

He was selling fruit with his family in Springbranch when he disappeared

They filed a missing person’s report & begged the public to help find him

Turns out he was in a Houston ICE detention facility

They kidnapped a disabled child!

English is great, but it's not everybody's first language, and sometimes it's nice to be spoken with in your own first language. It makes people feel included, and it can quickly establish a connection.

So, this little group of boys in the class was giving her this look that told her they were skeptical that this middle-age white woman could speak in Spanish to them. So, they asked her a question. And she answered in Spanish, and their eyes lit up ...

The thing is: My wife is pretty good at Spanish. She's not fluent, but she knows enough that she can speak and understand some basic stuff. I only know a few French phrases (like very few) besides being fluent in English, so I'm amazed at her language skills compared to my lousy ones ...

My wife is now substituting at the elementary level, as she couldn't find a full-time teaching job this academic year (hire her, somebody!). She's a sub in FOUR(!) different school districts around here, and yesterday she showed up to sub for a second-grade class for the afternoon ...

I watched a lot of postgame interviews and it struck me how many folks asking the Mariners questions made an effort to ask them questions in Spanish. Every time the players’ faces lit up. This is so important, and I’d love to see more of it.
