My favorite thing about Nic Cage is that the quality of the Nic Cage *movie* you are watching is almost totally orthogonal to the quality of the Nic Cage *performance* you are watching.

I just had a student come argue with me that a definition I used on a test was not quite correct, for essentially political reasons: he understood what I wanted the answer to be, but he was like “maybe that’s the way people do use that term, but not the way we should use that term…”
