Not going to rage post on social media about politics.

Gonna leave that to the poasters and pundits.

Just going to share photos of all the beautiful public lands I like to visit and talk about the weather.

Oh. Dammit. This sucks.

I remember when this happened. Apparently it was an instructor at the business at the wheel at the time 🤣

When the aurora made an appearance at the low latitudes of Colorado May of 2024, I scrambled to get some photos.

Fairly mediocre, to be honest! But it made me happy to photograph them finally after seeing them for many winters living in the far north.

A gradient of green to red aurora glow over a metal barn framed between two trees.

My favorite mushroom 🥰

Thank you for sharing this.

I worked as a reporter in Homer many years ago and applaud the principled decision of these journalists.

Long week. For the weekend, here's something Jane Goodall told me in 2015:

"Too often we're told, 'think globally, act locally.' If you think too long globally, you become depressed. But twist it around, you act locally and see what you and your friends can do to make a difference."

I use a lot of custom feeds on BlueSky, but this one is one of my favorites for seeing good content from accounts I’m not following.

After climbing 3000 feet up a steep couloir, I decided to sit for a moment and take in the scenery.

(I’ve posted this before, but it works for the BSAS theme of #Relax )

iPhone photo from a late May climb in the Elk range a few years back.

#BlueSkyArtShow #Mountaineering #Alpinism #Mountains
Visible mountaineering boots and an ice axe help provide a sense of scale for a wide angle iPhone image looking down from the top of a long line of packed snow. A string of alpine lakes sit in the valley below. Lush green foliage covers the mountainsides and down valley more peaks rise in the distance.

Cheers. Thank you for all the reposts 🙏🏼

This is my favorite song by The Shins. Some of the most beautiful “la la las” committed to tape, imo 🥰

Early October at McClure Pass, Colorado. Not current conditions. I photographed this three years ago.

#Mountainscape #Colorado #Scape #AutumnColors
Autumn scene of a mountain valley. Fog mixes with trees starting to change colors. Snow coats the higher summits. A road twists through the scene.

It’s a little overcooked, tbh.
Two mountains dusted with snow framed by a lake and trees, some of which are changing into their autumn colors.

I am unaware. Certainly curious, though.

Hope you have a speedy recovery 🙏🏼

Climbed up this big stack of rocks over the weekend. Great views. Mediocre light and a bit early for the spectacle of autumn colors.

Vertical photo showing extremely steep rocks rising thousands of feet above the screw slope below. In the distance more high mountains and scraggly summits slice the horizon below a deck of thin clouds.

The Maroon Bells dressed in their autumn best.

They don’t call it colorful Colorado for nothing! Love the autumn magic in the high Rockies.

The classic postcard scene of two striated, jagged peaks with a dusting of fresh snow framed by a lake and trees in the foreground. Aspen trees in the distance display a wide spectrum of dark gray to light gray as this otherwise colorful image is rendered in black and white.

"Forgotten Tracks at Kenosha"

Forgotten rails curve into a field of autumn gold, leading toward aspens, ridges, and a storm-lit sky over Kenosha Pass.

#MountainMonday #EastCoastKin #Photography #LandscapePhotography #Fujifilm #Colorado #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #KenoshaPass
In the foreground, rusted railroad tracks curve through a field of tall, golden-brown grasses. The wooden ties are uneven, many broken or missing, with small bushes and brush sprouting between them. The rails lead the eye toward the middle of the frame, where a wide band of aspens glows a brilliant yellow at the edge of a forest. Beyond the trees, layered ridges of dark green pine rise into the mountains, their slopes brushed with patches of autumn color. Above them, heavy blue and gray clouds push across the sky, broken by light that illuminates ridges and valleys in shifting patterns.
The image captures the quiet intersection of human history and natural cycles. The abandoned tracks tell of movement that has ended, while the aspens and mountains speak to endurance and renewal. It feels like a meditation on impermanence—what fades, what remains, and how both are carried forward in the land.

Neither here nor there, but I spent an amazing day in the high country today.

A lot of time spend on steep rocky trails and, of course, slow — and bumpy — dirt roads.

My poor little truck 😇
flyagaric.bsky.social
As always, I am a sucker for slow dirt roads. Another shot from Alaska six years ago.

A distant mountain framed by trees, some in their autumn livery. A dirt road snakes its way toward the peak.

Thank you. Clouds go such a long way in making a landscape 😇
