In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.
The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

If there wasn't enough of a reason to drop Spotify already, they're upping the price AGAIN in February to make it $20 a month or something.
Literally any other method of listening to music is better than using them at that point.

"we USE ai, but our game wont CONTAIN it" is a clarification that no one has ever cared about & now CEOs are using it as a wedge to get their foot in the door as a part of a long term plan into normalizing AI, just like how 'it's just placeholder' was used with E33. dont cede even an inch of ground

Seems like a good time to advocate for using literally anything other than Spotify for listening to music. Buy it from artists directly through Bandcamp or Qobuz, use a different streaming service, or just steal it.

goes without saying today obvs - fuck spotify, use bandcamp, switch to another streaming service, pirate if needed. but in addition to all of this, curating your own physical music collection thru CDs, tapes, vinyls, etc is a really wonderful way to get to know your own music collection.
