Good morning #ABRCMS2025!
My graduate student, Sushmita, is presenting a poster about how cytonemes interact with each other during tissue patterning.
She is planning to wrap up her PhD in 2026 and is on the job market.
She's a great lab member and independent researcher.

Jim Ryan wrote a letter to UVA detailing his "resignation" and I'm gonna get some fresh tea before I read it because I feel pretty certain I'm gonna be filled with righteous anger by the end

I'll do a thread but here's the full letter provided by the chronicle

*puts on old grandpa voice* back in my day there almost daily bomb threats during finals weeks and god am I glad we didn't have text message alert systems then. You just showed up and Cabell Hall was blocked off with police tape, oh well.

(But also I hope everyone at UVA stays safe today ❤️)
UVA’s Emergency Alerts are in function about creating a perception of safety rather than safety, but in the most stressful and ineffective way possible. And this logic is so tortured as to be non-sensical.

My cousins and aunts are my kid's aunties.
I wouldn't know how else to explain them! They're the aunties!

Which also reminds me of one of our favorite books, "Oh no, the Aunts are here"

OpenScope allows researchers from around the world to pitch experiments to be run – at not cost to them – in the Allen Brain Observatory.

It would bar federal funding for trans youth and adult care nationwide, which could be used to bar hospitals from providing it at all.
