Also Coco’s dropped 16 games which is the fewest to make the final in Wuhan history.

Just the third all-American final at a WTA 1000. Which also seems crazy? Serena-Madi in Rome and Jess-Amanda in Canada.

When 99% of the time the answer we hear is effectively "I just focus on myself" -- I cannot even begin to articulate how refreshing and awesome this Jessica Pegula answer is:
fortydeucetwits.bsky.social
Pegula says the key tonight was homework. She was keyed in on Sabalenka's tendencies and preferred patterns. Basically said she had the stats. Also credited her string of wild three-setters. Had gone through everthing so didn't panic at all after that 6-5 game. Knew she was hitting well.

I think we probably take Jess Pegula's late-blooming career surge for granted:

Only Serena Williams (18) has reached more WTA-1000 finals than Jessica Pegula (7, surpassing Venus Williams) among Americans since the format’s introduction in 2009.

With Amanda and Coco/Jess, it'll be an American sweep at the China 1000s. Mission accomplished too, as they all seal their spots for Riyadh, where along with Madi, Americans are set to comprise half the field.

Indeed! Ends Sabalenka's Open Era tiebreak win streak at 19.

That was an absolutely crazy 30 minutes.

Also ends Sabalenkas 19 straight tiebreak wins streak.

Sabalenka was 20-0 in Wuhan. A win today would have tied her with Serena's 21-streak at Miami.

3 - Since 1990, Jessica Pegula is just the third player aged 30+ to reach multiple Tier 1/WTA-1000 finals in consecutive seasons after Martina Navratilova (1993-94) and Serena Williams (2013-16). Company!

Me, waking up to see Sabalenka up 2-0 in the third: I'll watch the rest of this match before going back to bed, this will be fun.

Me after the match: unsure if I will ever sleep again

where in the world did those yips come from tho i've never seen that from jess before.
fortydeucetwits.bsky.social
All American final in Wuhan as Jess hands Aryna her 1st loss in Wuhan to snap a 4-match losing streak to her and make her 2nd 1000 final of the year. Aryna served for the match. Jess had MPs before getting the yips. It was a whole thing.

Coco vs. Jess for the title!
fortydeucetwits.bsky.social
ok tbf it would have been ROUGH to lose b2b 1000 sfs from MPs up
fortydeucetwits.bsky.social
Great set from Jess and she takes Sabs to a third.

Valentin Vacherot has shocked everybody in Shanghai this week, he takes out Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 to make the Final.

Coco Gauff finally gets her revenge on Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-3 after losing the first 3 meetings to her in 2025.

we gotta give jasmine paolini her props. she's into her 4th week in China and playing virtually nonstop with a huge grin, helped win BJK Cup in Shezhen, made singles QF & dubs title in Beijing, now in the Wuhan SFs and, like....playing some of the best singles tennis of her year? titanium boss.

Few screenwriters have ever gone beast mode as reliably as Vince Gilligan did for The X-Files' monster of the week episodes. Pusher, Unruhe, Paper Hearts, Leonard Betts, Small Potatoes, Bad Blood, Folie a Deux, Drive, Field Trip, etc. etc.
