We are changing the climate of our planet faster than in the known history of our world.

Methane reached a record high of 1946.5 ppb!

That's already much higher than the peak of the mid range climate scenario SSP2-4.5, which peaks at ~1905 ppb in 2030!

All over the EU, we are consistently underrating the social value of public transport.

Report from Confederation of Danish Industry @danskindustri.dk attempts closing in (sorry, in Danish). A good start even if the value of the active mobility part of the bus-, train-, metrojourney is not covered.

As the piece also describes, the polar vortex is also to unusual local extremes.

For example, January has been *warmer* in Nuuk, Greenland, than in Copenhagen 😵‍💫 - and it is continuing so far.

Copenhagen: -0.6°C vs average of +1.6
Nuuk: +0.2°C vs average of -7.7 🤯
Wild fact from @billmckibben.bsky.social's latest newsletter:

"The last colder-than-average month on planet earth was in February of 1985, which means that no one under the age of forty has ever known one."

Nordhaus’s optimal pathway in the DICE model leads to ~3 °C of warming by 2100, and the same model estimates that ~3 °C of warming would reduce global GDP by only ~2%.

Nordhaus labels ~3 °C warming “optimal” because it costs only ~2–3% of global GDP, roughly the size of the entire African economy!

The implication is stark: #climate damages on the scale of wiping out Africa can be treated as an acceptable cost of continued fossil fuel use. 🧵
