I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

Literally buying one copy of a book at your local indie bookstore can mean the difference in whether they buy future books from that author.

This is a really cool thing you should read.

To form a greater part"

Pushing the boundaries of your understanding is like stepping into ice water. You know it's going to be cold, you remember what it was like the previous times you did it, but the feeling of it never stops being a shock to the system

Literally every time I delve into research for Far Field I discover a new form of cultural blindspot, historical ignorance, or outright lie in my understanding of the world. It's been an oddly harrowing experience

A reminder that cars aren’t a technology problem. They’re a geometry problem.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

it's good to write weird experimental vibey shit even if it comes out a little wonky. you still learn stuff and it still tells a story and maybe that's what this is all about at the end of the day

When ever one of those AI bros tires to tell you that artist are gatekeeping art remember that pros, armatures, hobbyist all stopped what they where doing to provide guidance to a newbie artist over the shared experience that "this one angle is hard to draw"

Mastercard is bleeding, get in there. Make some calls. Get some cool family members in on it over thanksgiving
The lines are getting clogged from calls and Mastercard is feeling very pressured, they're looking into how to act in response. They're collecting information on callers to have a better understanding of who is calling in re the censorship issue

Woah!

Ontario passed a law starting Jan 2026 that it is illegal for companies to ghost you.

If you have interviewed for a job they are legally required to inform you if they hire someone else or close the position.

The law also requires salary transparency on listings and disclosing use of AI

Spoke to my source familiar with internal workings at Mastercard. The holiday call campaign re payment processor censorship is working, there is a lot of pressure being felt from your calls. This is resulting in increased response times at a core moment for Mastercard due to the holiday season

In self-interest but also general interest, folks: Black Friday is coming up, and small publishers/independent creators will always be a better choice than megacorps.

When the sales drop, please remember that!
